Last evening Mitchell Local League 2 travelled to the visitors side of the Mitchell arena to take on the home side, which was Mitchell Local League 1.
The host, Mitchell 1, came out like "gang busters" and took the play to Mitchell 2 early. If not for some key saves by Keagan Meinen, Mitchell 2 could have found themselves down by more than just one. Brandon Dietrich scored a nice goal, going "top shelf" or Meinen's glove. As the game wore on, Mitchell 2 started to find their legs, but were unable to solve Joel Meinen in the Mitchell 1 net. With time dying down in the second, Ryan Hubbard scored on a goal mouth scramble, tying tying the game at 1 a piece. Early in the third Mitchell 2 would take the lead on another goal by Hubbard, Payton Wood and Trevor Turk both registered assists. On the next shift, Lincoln Lorentz was able to get the puck down low, where Ben Medhurst controlled it to make a beautiful pass out front to Noah Mann who buried it home passed a sprawling Joel Meinen. Mitchell 2's defence was then able to set up and hold the fort, escaping with a 3-1 victory. Great job by both teams giving the Mitchell fans something to cheer about in both ends.
