Mitchell Tournament Novice Champions!
The Mitchell Novice Girls 1 team won the championship at the Mitchell Women's Hockey tournament this weekend.
Starting tournament action at noon on Friday the Novice girls gathered at the arena with dreams of winning, determination to work hard and the desire to pull it off!
Claiming the first game against Ilderton with a score of 12-1. Mitchell dominated the game and play through out. First period resulted in three goals, two unassisted by Sadie and a third by Cydney, assisted by Brooklyn. Second period netted two more goals, Claire scored assisted by Sadie. Then Sadie scored unassisted. Ilderton followed up with their lone goal of the game in the second to add their name to the scoreboard.
Although Mitchell had a four goal lead going into the third, Ilderton's goal rattled their chain and they attacked offensively with seven goals to wrap up the game. Scorer's included Sadie (3), Alia (2), Lauren (1). Assist credit goes to Alia, Jordyn, Claire and Alexis.
Mitchell was still on fire from their first win and carried it over to their second game of the tournament. It was a grand final score of 13-2. It was a total team effort with everyone holding their position and protecting their zone. Shawni stood tall in net, having the teams back, allowing only two goals. Scorer's include Ally, Alexis (3), Sadie (5), Brooklyn, Claire, Lauren and Josie. Assists to Lauren(3), Sadie (2), Josie (3), Cydney (2), Ally, Alexis (2) and Brooklyn.
In tournament action Sunday morning for their third game the girls may have met their match. Mooretown came to play,and they played well. Mitchell finally found an opening in the third period to make the game a 1-0 win. Credit goes to Sadie, assisted by Ally. This win put Mitchell into the championship game Sunday afternoon.
Once again meeting up with Mooretown for the championship title the girls new the team and was prepared to face off and fight for the title. Sadie opened the scoring in the first, assisted by Charlee and Claire. Momentum built into the second period as Mitchell added three more markers, all by Sadie, assists to Josie, Alia, Claire and Charlee. Shawni made some awesome saves in net to keep the moral strong. Finishing it off in the third Alia scored, assisted by Lauren and Cydney. Final score 5-0 to win the Novice Championship title at the Mitchell Women's Hockey Tournament.
