The McLaughlin Chrysler Novice Rep boys make finals in Simcoe Tournament but fall shy in overtime
The Mitchell Novice Rep Meteors travelled to Simcoe to square off against teams from the Niagara region for a weekend tournament Nov 21-23rd.  The boys opened strong Friday night as they squared off against host team Simcoe.  Team point leader Jared Vosper opened scoring netting twice in the first and later adding for the hat trick in the third.  Jarett Van Bakel added a goal in the dying seconds of the first and  Vincent Voros also scored early in the third, with a perfect pass from Josh French as the boys took the opening game 5-3.

The boys went right back at it early Saturday morning as they took on Unionville in a lopsided competition winning 16-0.  Later Saturday afternoon the boys began their trek to the finals taking on the Burford Coyotes.  Zachery Houben grabbed a goal early on in the first and the boys continued to charge all the way through the game as they took Burford 10-1.  Great offensive and defensive work by Brock Boville helped the boys move forward on to the finals.

The boys then went on to play on Sunday as they took Ayr in a lunch time battle.  Voros grabbed a hat trick while Vosper and Carson Harmer also netted singles.  Again French, Houben and Boville added to their points and Daniel Ogilvie also grabbed an assist as the boys locked their place in the finals in a 5-0 victory.

The boys would meet Delhi for the Sunday evening final with both teams showing early that they were hungry for the win.  Mitchell took the early 1-0 lead as Houben scored from a Van Bakel assist.  They would hold the lead until early in the third when Delhi answered back to tie things up.  By the time the third period buzzer went things were still tied and the finals were about to be decided in sudden death overtime.  Despite goalie Hayden Beuermann’s  attempt to stop the third 2 on 0 breakaway of the game Delhi was able to slide one past and grab the overtime win.

Although the boys initial reaction was disappointment they still had much to be proud of as they played strong and determined throughout the entire tournament.  Well done boys and great efforts as we look ahead to silver stick next month.
