Introducing the St. Clair Shores International Silver Stick Mite/Novice B Division Finalists
Our very own McLaughlin Novice Rep Meteors built off their hard work and successful play at the Kincardine Regional Silver Stick tournament to spend this past weekend competing for that elusive silver prize. Although the boys came up a little short in the finals against Mt. Brydges this afternoon their determination was never in question! The weekend was full of great spirit, comradery and teamwork, that despite the sad feelings and long faces after todays last game, are qualities that not every team can boast. They came into every game as a unified group, took to the ice as one well-oiled machine, and left each game behind them to all look together at the next challenge ahead.

That’s not to say our team doesn’t have a star, in reality we have multiple stars, twelve if I count correctly. Not one player on this team of ours would be quite the same without each one of the others. For example no game is complete without the opening faceoff drive to watch our Vinny Bob-o-Reno net that all important momentum gaining goal, or the smooth and relaxed defensive play from Mr. Silky Mitts himself, Cole.  And our team would never be complete without the versatile care taker Bovie, not to mention the small in stature but always focused and ready defender Caleb. And heavens our offence would be at a loss if not for the Vos, whose shot is bar none the highest and hardest one. But wait that offence needs those two centers of ours, the Bakes is sure to be in a battle behind the opponents net and even surer to be the one to emerge with the puck. And that Carse of ours is the best little shotgun any team could dream of, no matter how many sticks are tying him up he will still get that shot off, and more often than not score on it too. Back on that blue line is our speed skater Danny, not many a player can match up to him once he shifts through those gears. Oh and our Rhetro, no forward is safe as he steers them far from their path, and that goal was like a laser with eyes this weekend, a true thing of beauty. No competitors net is safe with our Frenchy on ice, he will be the one out front and oh yes he will send that rebound home. Be assured as our Houby drives straight to the net, he will clear all in his path but he will also be the one to apologize to all the opponents he blew past on his way to that goal. And yes by my count that is only eleven, no break away is a sure thing for our opponents when they face Tater the poke check king. So yes if anyone asks I would say we do have a star, twelve of the brightest ones that any coach or team could ask for.

So even though the smiles were a little harder to see this afternoon and not quite as big, these Meteors lit up our skies this weekend and we wouldn’t have it any other way. With glossy eyes and a heart so full of pride for each and every one of you I say; Great work boys, you must hold your heads high. You played together better than anyone could have asked or imagined from you, and OUR 2015 International Silver Stick Finalists are #1 to all of us and always will be!!
