The Meteors took the Lockridge Division with a decisive 6-2 win over Chatsworth Saturday. The team ended their season with an 8 game winning streak.
Devon Schinbein opened the scoring in the first period with a goal assisted by Jesse Kinsmen. After Chatsworth came back to tie it at one, Lodewyk Koert scored to put the Meteors ahead with a solo effort. This was Koert’s first game back in several weeks as he was recovering from a shoulder injury. Chatsworth added another with under 5 minutes to go in the first but this would be their last of the game.
Schinbein added the game winner late in the second period assisted by Trevor Skinner. Martin Van Bakel added the insurance goal with his signature back-hand. Joe McCarthy finished off the scoring with a shot off the draw mid-way through the third.
Offensive players, Tyler Pauli, Evan Chaffe and Ben Davey peppered the goalie as Mitchell out shot Chatsworth 47-13. The defensive squad of Trevor Skinner, Josh Taylor, Sam Skinner, Jordan Eggleton and Jordan Mabb stopped all rushes and Scott Herbert made several key saves to keep up the team’s momentum.
The Midgets were supported by sidelined players, Owen Smith and Ross Gethke in this final game. As this was our last game of the season, the team also recognizes the dedication of back-up goalies, Tyler Meinen and Aaron McNeil, who were always ready to step in and attended all practices as well.
The Midgets were treated to the use of the Hawks dressing room for our final weekend which for many was one of the highlights of the season! Thanks to the coaching staff for their hard work this season and the parent reps for keeping us organized. See you next year.
