Novice Boys Make it to Finals in Kincardine Regional Silver Stick
The Meteors played amazing in the Silver Stick Tournament in Kincardine this past weekend! The boys fought hard in all five of their games to become 'Novice B' finalists.

The first game was against the Listowel Cyclones. The game started off quickly with a goal for Mitchell scored in the first 38 seconds of the game by Nicholas Houben after a nice pass from defenceman Joey Adam. Less than 3 minutes later, Connor Lockhart notched his first of the day with Conner MacLean getting the assist.  The first period ended with Mitchell up by 2. The second period started off much like the first with Lockhart tucking in his second goal assisted by Houben. Only 37 seconds later Houben found the back of the net with his second of the game after a pass from defenceman Luke Murray. Listowel didn't let this goal go unanswered and scored their first of the game, making the score 4-1. Dietz found the back of the net shortly after with MacLean getting the assist. Listowel answered back with a goal of their own and the Meteors ended the second period up 5-2. Things slowed down a bit in the third period but it was still just as exciting as Listowel scored to bring them within two of the Meteors. Mitchell still had lots of energy left in them and Houben notched a hat trick with Dietz getting the assist. The Meteors managed to sneak a final goal past the net minder when Adam passed the puck up to an eager Lockhart who added his third goal of the game as well. The boys won the game with a score of 7-3.
The second game in the tournament was against the Tavistock Titans. This nail biter went end to end for the first two periods without either team getting on the scoreboard.  Coach Dietz must have lit a fire under the boys as they came out in the third determined to win the match! The third period began with Houben finding the back of the net after a great pass from Seth Huygen. Just over a minute later, Huygen got one of his own which was assisted by Houben and Brayden Vosper. Mitchell was now up 2-0. The Meteors didn't let up and Drew Scherbarth got a third goal for Mitchell while Houben got the assist. The Meteors kept the heat on Tavistock and Lockhart got one past the goalie with 3 minutes left in the game.  MacLean and Luke Murray notched the assists. Goaltender, Charlie Woods, made some nice saves to try and secure his shutout but in the dying minutes of the game, Tavistock snuck one by him.  The boys ended the game beating the Titans 4-1.
Game #3 was against the home team, the Kincardine Kinucks. After a grand introduction of all of the Kincardine players, Mitchell was fired up and ready to play some hockey! The first period started with a quick goal for Kincardine. Mitchell answered back with a goal by Huygen, assisted by MacLean. The boys went into the second period tied at 1. Kincardine was ready to go, and they scored 2 more goals in the second to give them a score of 3-1. The 2 goals pushed Mitchell to keep fighting, and they did. Justin Morrison scored with just over a minute left in the period. The assist went to Huygen. The second period ended and Mitchell was still down 3-2. The boys came out strong in the third with the tying goal coming after a "top cheese" blast from Brett Poirier, assisted by Scherbarth. Mitchell knew they couldn't sit on the tie if they wanted to ensure a place in the semi-finals, so they kept fighting right through to the end. With only a minute and a half left in the game, Dietz scored the game winning goal, assisted by Poirier.  The Meteors beat the home team 4-3.
The unbeaten Mitchell Meteors moved to the semi-finals where they played the Mount Forest Rams. The scoring started early in the first period with a goal from the Rams. The boys answered back with a goal 4 minutes later by Lockhart, assisted by Dietz and Houben. Going into the second period, the boys were tied at 1. The Meteors scored less than 2 minutes into the period. The goal was scored by Huygen after a beautiful pass by Houben. At the end of the second, the Meteors were ahead 2-1. The third period was end to end and Woods was called on to make some great saves to protect Mitchell's lead.  The final goal of the game came from Huygen with Houben getting the assist.  The 3-1 win meant a place in the finals for Mitchell the next morning.
The finals were against BCH which the boys knew would be a hard fought game.  BCH came out strong in the game but Mitchell came out just as strong and gave the fans a great end to end match.  BCH started the scoring and got 2 goals early in the game.  Huygen got one past the BCH goalie after taking a pass from Houben to make the score 2-1.  BCH had some great shooters and were able to get a few more past Woods to lead the game 4-1.  Huygen and Houben teamed up again and Huygen notched his second goal of the game while Houben and Poirier got the assists.  With the score 4-2, BCH went top shelf on Woods to increase their lead.  The boys never gave up and Houben managed to find the back of the net to bring Mitchell to within 2 goals on a nice play by Dietz and MacLean.  Unfortunately, BCH would not allow any other goals and Mitchell lost in the finals 5-3.  The Meteors showed a lot of heart fighting every game and being undefeated until the very end.  Way to go Mitchell!!!
