Meteors Meltdown
The Sunlife - Paul Van Gerwen U18 Girls hockey suffered a loss Sunday night against South Huron.
The U-18 team is currently in top spot of the Western Ontario Girls Hockey League standings with 12 game points, 10 wins and only 2 losses this season.
South Huron battled the weather to make it to the Mitchell Arena and continued to win the battle on the ice as well. Goals tending duties were shared to stand up to the shots headed between the posts.
While the game started out evenly matched with no score heading into the second period, that quickly changed with Mitchell allowing the first goal near midway through the second period. The U-18 fought back with a hard-earned goal by Brooklyn F at the end of the second to put them on the scoreboard making it a tied game. Unfortunately, it was not long until South Huron on-upped the Meteors with their second goal of the game to start the third period.
Mitchell battled hard with their speed, skill and strength but could not sneak another puck past the goalie. In an attempt to even the playing field Mitchell's goalie was pulled, allowing an easy third goal for South Huron at the end of the third period.
The sting of the U-18 girls second loss of the season was not lost on the Meteors as they meet back for practice to rally their game plan.
