Peewee Girls defeat London Devilettes 2-1
The J.P. Uniac Insurance Peewee B Girls battled London on Sunday looking to increase their lead in the Lower Lakes West division and came out with an exciting  2-1 victory.

With London only 4 points back in the division, Mitchell knew it would be a hard battle and came out strong right from the opening faceoff.  The coaching staff had the girls ready to go as they carried the play and pressured the opponents at every opportunity.  Jade Huygen opened the scoring with 4 minutes left in the first when she intercepted a pass at our own blue line and raced down the ice firing a slap shot past the London netminder.
Goaltender Kora Smith stood strong making some nice saves  to preserve the lead.  Ally Vogels took over in net midway through the game and right away was tested.  On a partial break, Vogels made a nice toe save but the unlucky rebound when right to a London player who tied the game at 1-1.  Hard aggressive  play by all the girls helped to keep the opponents off of the score sheet as the forwards worked nicely in our own zone helping the defense to break up plays and exit our end clean and break down the ice.  Nearing the end of the game and fighting fatigue, the girls kept pressing and were rewarded with a power play with 2 minutes left in the game.  Hayden Uniac carried the puck down the ice getting it into the offensive zone.  Huygen fired a shot and a net crashing Andrea Kelly buried the rebound to take a 2-1 lead.  Vogels was called upon for another big save in the final seconds as London pulled their goalie for the extra attacker but could not even the score.
With 3 regular season games left the Meteors look to finish off strong and enter the playoffs with momentum.
