To open the tournament the girls faced the Lucan Irish in a close game coming out on the winning end of a 2-1 score. Jade Huygen opened the scoring in the closing seconds of the first period with a gritty wrap around attempt with assists going to Rachel Haefling and Brooklyn Boville.  The score remained tied until midway through the third when Boville dug one out of the corner, went behind the net to Haileigh Templeman who found Brooklynn French alone on the weak side to put it home for a 2-0 lead.  Lucan got one back shortly after but goaltender Ally Vogels shut the door from that point on helping secure the win.

The next game had the Meteors facing the Huron Heat which always proves to be a close game.  Andrea Kelly opened the scoring at the 4:42 mark of the first after driving home a rebound off of an Ashley McLeod shot.
That proved to be the winning goal as Cora Smith and Vogels turned aside everything thrown their way.  The defence of Addy Wolfe, Aubrey Vosper, Hayden Uniac and Alexis Gettler were strong as always shutting down the opponents chances and moving the puck out of the zone.

Game 3 versus the Woolwich Wild was as exciting as they come.  The girls came out strong carrying most of the play but after 2 tough goals against found themselves down 2-0 nearing the end of the second period.  A minute later after a point shot from Gettler, Tegan Mace got the puck over to McLeod who buried her first of the game to send the Meteors into the third down one goal.  McLeod tied the game up with an assist going to Mace early in the third which led to a thrilling finish.  Both teams pressed hard but neither could score sending it to a shootout which went 5 rounds before Woolwich emerged victorious.

The girls then faced the Huron Heat once again in the semi final determined to make it to Sunday.  French opened the scoring in the first with a nice pass from Templeman and another assist going to Kelly.  Mace then redirected a nice pass from McLeod with an assist going to Uniac to go up 2-0.  Jade Huygen was a force outworking opponents and controlling pucks helping to set up 2 more goals by Kelly earning her an assist along with Wolfe and 2 to Haefling.

Mitchell faced Woolwich once again in the final hoping to make up for the previous shoot out loss.  Haefling opened the scoring in the first after fighting off defenders all the way down the ice and firing a shot from the boards which beat the Wild goaltender to go up 1-0.  After that it was all goaltending and defence.  Smith made some nice saves early on including a point blank save to preserve the tie.  Vogels came in with the shared goaltending duties and also made some great saves.  An unlucky bounce off of the end boards resulted in the puck bouncing off of a leg and in to tie the game which put it into 3 on 3 sudden death overtime.  Play in overtime was end to end until Woolwich took a penalty for too many men.  McLeod forced the puck behind the net and sent it out front to Kelly who used her reach bury the winning goal.

Congratulations to the girls and coaching staff for the fantastic weekend of strong tournament play.
