Peewee AE's Sweep Series Against the Saugeen Storm
The New Orleans Pizza Mitchell Peewee AE’s managed to pull-off an impressive series against the Saugeen Storm, sweeping their second round of OMHA playoffs in only three games.

Making the trip to Port Elgin last Saturday (January 25th) Saugeen got on the board early off the opening draw and added a second goal with 7:30 to go in the first.  Charlie Wolfe broke out of our zone on a breakaway, sending the puck over to Wade Campbell to get the Meteors up on the board midway through the period, to leave Mitchell trailing by one heading into the second.  As the period started, the Meteors were gaining momentum and finding their groove, and with a well timed wristy- Wolfe was able to tie the game up for the visiting Meteors.  With both ends of the rink eager to take an early series lead, it looked like the game was going to end in a draw.  However, with three to go, Ryan Klumper dug the puck out of the corner, to send it over to Wolfe for the go-ahead point.  Saugeen pulled their goalie, and with a man advantage and a minute a half remaining, the Meteors blue line was working hard, as Keegan Meinin stood on his head between the pipes, ending the game with a 3-2 come-from-behind-win to take game one in the series.

The following night, Saugeen made the blustery drive down to Mitchell, as the Meteors were eager to play on their home ice.  The game got started with full-intensity as both teams came out of the gate in full-force, and peppered the opposing net with shots.  The arena was packed with family and friends and everyone was anxiously holding their breathe as it was a goalies game and anyone’s for the taking.  Charlie Wolfe would do just that midway through the second as he busted through the Storms’ defense on a power-play goal, to get the locals up on the board in a hard battled second period.  This would remain the lone goal of the game, and Keegan Meinen earned a shut-out in game number two, as the AE’s would take the two game lead from the Storm, in a one goal game that left the fans in the stands more than a little breathless.

Back on the Meteors home ice on Friday night, Mitchell was eager to wrap up the series on home ice, and save themselves a drive up the coast on Super Bowl Sunday.  In the second period there was mass confusion in front of the Storms net, but Wade Campbell reached a loose puck out of the air, and sent it over to Ryan Hubbard for the first goal of the game.  In the third, Campbell would again feed the puck out assisting Ryan Klumper with the |Meteors second goal.  Cohen Ahrens would fire a shot from the point, on a powerplay goal for the home team.  Saugeen would score one before the game was over, but it wasn’t enough to extend the series one more game, and Mitchell will advance to round three of OMHA playoffs, with three straight wins and a score of 3-1.

Congratulations to everyone for a series well played!

Mitchell eagerly awaits scheduling announcements for the quarter finals against Collingwood.
