Bantam Girls Win WOGHL Gold
The Scotia bank Bantam Girls played a tough final series against the Sarina Sting but came out winning the gold medal in their WOGHL Division.

Our final games of the season would be for our WOGHL division championship. The Sarina String was the team we needed to beat to bring home the gold medal and our feisty group of gals did just that late last night.
Game #1 of the series was at our home barn last Sunday (March 24th).  With the drop of the puck this game was on.  It only took a few minutes into this game to get on the scoreboard first with Alexa Hahn netting our first goal with help from line mates Nicole Hahn and Nicole Haefling.  Just as the opening period was winding down, Sarina would get one pass our goalie to tie things up.  With the second period settling nothing, the third was filled with lots of excitement.  As time was counting off the clock, the quick play making of wingers, Charlee Feltz and Olivia Bilotta got the puck over to Jaelyn Meinen to score to increase our lead 2-1.  Sarina continued to press hard but our defensive core of Maia Stephan, Meryl Tourigny, Dayna Vosper and Emily Dearing played hard and turned those Sting girls away from our net to skate away with the game #1 victory to set up hopefully a win on the road in game #2.
Last night (March 29th) we toured to Sarina for what we were hoping was the winning game of this series but when we arrived at the arena there was a bit of confusion but with a bit of time waiting, things finally got sorted out and a switch to a different arena our game finally got started.  Right from the face off our Meteors seemed a little slow and sluggish and give Sarina the opportunity to take advantage of that and net the first goal of the game, the remainder of the period was uneventful with us down by 1.  Shortly into the second period the drive of Nicole Hahn skating end to end tossing that little black disk towards the Sarina net minder to find Alexa Hahn right there for the tap in and tie up the game.  The second period would end deadlock at 1 with the final period looming.  Puck dropped for the final 12 minutes and we could see a determination in our Meteors that they wanted the win.  Play was end to end but Mitchell kept the puck hemmed in the Sting in and with some tough plays, Emily Dearing shot the puck towards the net and Olivia Bilotta was right there for the rebound to shoot and score!  We were up by 1, but those Sting weren't willing to back down and our goalie Makayla Beuerman was up to the task being rock solid in net spoiling all attempts to square up this game.  As fans watched with anticipation as our girls were just minutes from skating away with the gold medal, Nicole Hahn added the insurance goal off the stick of Maia Stephan.  The clock counted down and buzzer sounded to have a pile of Meteors celebrate their win 3-1.
Great team work girls – you won the WOGHL gold!
We would like to thank our bench staff - Mark Stephan, Keith Edwards, Rob Dearing, Dave Meinen and Colleen Rothwell for a fun and enjoyable season.
