Great Start in 2019
The Scotiabank Bantam Girls have had a great start so far in 2019 with 2 wins and a tie with just a few games left in our regular season.

Just a few nights into the New Year on Jan 3rd we hosted the Huron Heat.   The Heat have been a tough team for us during the season but our girls stepped on the ice that night ready for the challenge and made those Heat girls work for it!  Maia Stephan would open the scoring half way thru the opening period from the quick puck movement of Jaelyn Meinen and that was all the scoring in the first.  Second period seen each team exchange goals but after 20 mins in, our feisty Meteors held the slim lead of 3-2.  The sister duo of Nicole and Alexa Hahn would each be rewarded with a goal with the assists going to Nicole Haefling and Dayna Vosper.   As the third period started the Heat put the pressure to us and would net the equalizer to square the game 3-3.  Play continue and despite numerous of chances from each team the game would end in a tie.  Great effort girls!
With a bit of a break before our next match the girls had many practices to work on their skill and plays and it showed during our game this past Saturday in Exeter against the Sabres. South Huron would open the scoring and take the lead 1-0 after the first period but our girls battled hard and Charlee Feltz would net our first goal of the game from the help of line mates Jaelyn Meinen and Meryl Tourigny.  Play continued from end to end but the score was at a deadlock 1-1.  With a long fifteen minute period looming we knew our girls needed to be aggressive and take control of this game.  Minutes ticking off the clock and the puck crossing the centre line many times end to end, the aggressive attack of Jaelyn Meinen, Meryl Tourigny and Olivia Bilotta got the puck to the hot stick of Charlee Feltz to score not once more but twice within 11 seconds to earn the hat toss from Coach Stephan and give the good gals the lead 3-1.  As time continued to wind down and South Huron in desperate times, they pulled their goalie for the extra attacker and with a flurry of bodies around our net they would squeak one in to close our lead to just 1 but with just a minute left in the game our girls did what they needed to in order to hear the buzzer sound game over and a cheer from the crowd as the girls won! Another great team effort!
Last evening (Sunday) we headed to St Mary's to take on the Rock.  Again this was a back and fourth game with each team having some good shots on each of the goalies but during the opening period Emily Dearing fired a shot on net and the Rock goalie managed to keep it out but the gritty determination of Olivia Bilotta in front of the net got the puck on her stick to tap in it to score!  Awesome work Ollie!  Our goalie Makayla Beuerman was rock solid and denied every Rock shot attempt to earn the shutout 1-0.  Great work everyone!
Our girls will have the rematch vs South Huron (Exeter) on Wednesday night on our home pad and then look forward to playing in the BAD girls tournament this weekend in Alymer.  So come on out on Wednesday night to cheer on out Bantam Girls.
