Novices Came Up With Wins In Exhibition And League Play
The Meteors took on the St. Marys Rock Saturday and the Mt. Forest Rams on Sunday.
In exhibition action against St. Marys, a goaltending battle and good work by the defense kept the game scoreless until late in the second when Ray Wolfe found the net. Mitchell scored four unanswered goals in the third to put the game out of reach. Owen Jarmuth had two goals, with Cam Dietz and Sean Gibbings adding others. St. Marys got on the board late in the third but Wolfe responded right after with his second for a final score of 6-1. Mitchell's assists came from Lubbers, Wolfe, Jarmuth, Blake Otten and Montgomery.
On Sunday the boys headed to Mt. Forest to play a much improved team. The Rams goaltender stood tall and turned away many good scoring chances. Mitchell did manage to find the back of the net with two goals in the first, one in the second and one in the third. Cole Templeman, Logan Montgomery, Carson Lubbers and Cam Dietz scored with Lubbers, Dietz, Lucas DeJong and Max Brodhagen getting assists.
