Meteors Win Brantford's 37th Annual Walter Gretzky Tournament
The JP Uniac Atom HL Girls went undefeated this weekend to capture gold. The weekends games showcased a strong team effort with all players contributing to the team's success.

The Meteors opened up the tournament Friday afternoon with a dominating 10-1 win over Mooretown.  Andrea Kelly lead the attack with a double hattrick as the offence fired away at the opposing goalie.  Brooklynn French contributed with a 5 point game (2 goals and 3 assists), while Tegan Mace and Alissa Insley also added single markers.  Haileigh Templeman lead the assist parade with 4 helpers, while Mace, Insley, and Rachel Haefling would all have a pair of assists each.

In their second game the girls drew Owen Sound in the Friday evening game.  The defence grouping of Hayden Uniac, Addy Wolfe, Rylee Kipfer and Peyton Vanderkuylen along with netminder Ally Vogels backstopped the win and would frustrate opposing goal scorers for the remainder of the tournament. Kelly and Uniac would provide the goals, both on great rushes to secure the 2-0 win.

Saturday morning goaltender Vogels would make several key saves against a strong London Devilettes team.  Mace would open up the games scoring early in the first with linemate Insley and French adding assists.  The teams would battle back and forth until Templeman would tip a Haefling shot past the sprawling London goalie.  Mace would add her second of the game to put it out of reach and secure a 3-0 victory.  A perfect 3-0 record in round robin would seed the Meteors first in the 9 team division and earn them a bye to Sundays finals.

The finals would find the girls up against Kent County Fillies who had eliminated Gatineau earlier Sunday morning in the semi final.  Again the defence would play a key role in the game.  Kelly continued her scoring touch, putting Mitchell up a goal early in the first period.  The game would be a close battle with both teams exchanging scoring oppurtunites with strong goaltending at both ends.  Vanderkuylen lead the shutdown defence with several key takeaways chasing down opposing forwards and neutralizing scoring chances.  Midway through the third Mace would add a timely insurance marker assisted by Insley and French.  Goaltender Vogels would seal the tournament win with her third consecutive shutout.
