JP Uniac Insurance Atom HL Girls Secure Spot in WOGHL Finals
A pair of well deserved wins on the road this weekend clinched a spot in the league finals.

The girls started a busy week of playoff hockey with a close 3 to 1 loss Wednesday March 14th in Mitchell to the North Middlesex Stars.  Hayden Uniac would provide the lone goal in the loss, as the locals played well but couldn't generate enough offence to overcome the opposition.

Saturday afternoon found the girls visiting South Huron C in Stephen Township.  After dropping 2 games in a row the girls needed a win to get back on track in round robin play.  The Sabres opened the scoring half way through the first, however Brooklynn French would answer back with under a minute left in the first to even up the score.  The Meteor offense would then apply pressure adding 2 goals in the second period from Alissa Insley and Andrea Kelly.  In the third the Meteors would continue to build the lead as Kelly and French both added their second goals of the game to lead Mitchell to a 5 to 1 victory.  Addy Wolfe will contribute 2 assists on the day, while Tegan Mace and Rachel Haefling would add single helpers.  Ally Vogels was strong in net as she made several key stops earning the win.

The win left the girls in good shape for their final round robin game against North Middlesex Sunday afternoon.  Needing a tie or a win to advance the locals knew they would need a solid team effort to advance.  Coming into Sunday's game the Stars had won 2 of 3 meetings throughout the year with the teams also battling to a 0-0 tie in their first matchup.  Tegan Mace would open the scoring in the first with Insley earning an assist.  The teams would exchange several scoring chances in a close game until the Stars would finally beat Vogels to tie up the game in the final minute of the second.  The Meteors would battle through with a strong third period as French and Haileigh Templeman would both score unassisted goals under a minute apart to build a 3 to 1 lead.  The Star's were not going away easily as they brought the game within 1 shortly after.  Feisty winger Rachel Haefling would score to put the game away with Templeman drawing an assist.  Mitchell takes this final round robin game 4-2 and earned themselves a spot in the final.

The girls will now face off against Tillsonburg in a series.  The teams split previous matchups this season each with a win and a loss.
