GOING THE DISTANCE IN THE MAROON NOVICE LL FINAL
The Dodge Caravan Kids Novice LL2 team , needing a win to stay alive got just that on Tuesday night on home ice , a solid team effort was needed and they got just that in a 3-2 win over Hanover , forcing a third and deciding game in the WOAA Maroon Novice LL Championship series, Wednesday night at 7 pm Mitchell arena.
Cameron Dietz opened the scoring exactly five minutes in , as he one timed a pass from Ben Kelly , also assisted by Cole Templeman for a 1-0 lead after one. Tight checking continued , and Hanover got the break early in the second period , on an odd man rush beating Voros upstairs to tie the game at 1-1 , and the play remained close all period , and ended the second that way . Needing another big third period again to force another game , the players came thru , with some aggressive checking and passing . Kelly scored from the point off a faceoff win by Dietz , to give the boys back the lead at 13:45 third period 2-1. Just under two minutes later , Blake Otten , who had a tremendous game was rewarded setting up Logan Montgomery fired home what turned out to be the game winner , assisted by Michael Coyne as well. Hanover made things close with 6:46 remaining setting up a nail bitter of a finish, but the aggressive forecheck of the skating forwards, and defense clearing pucks allowed the locals to seal the win.
