PLAYOFF ACTION - THREE GAMES IN AND FIVE POINTS TALLIED
Playoffs are underway for the Bantam LL’s who have two wins and a tie under their belt giving them a very solid start to this round robin action.

Florists and chocolatiers would surely profit if they set up shop at the local arenas on February 14th as many folks in the hockey community take to the rink on this date. This Valentine’s Day the boys hosted Listowel on their Monkton ice pad. Carter YOST gave his mom a hat trick in the first period (that’s his second this season I do believe), but he didn’t stop there as he added two more goals in the 2nd period. Basil VOROS "HERB", Kole HUNT and Brent SMITH "PUFF" each got an assist. Wade MONDEN also scored a goal for his mom and PUFF assisted that one too. The final Valentine’s goal was scored by Will STEINBACH for his mom and MONDEN picked up that assist. The team played hard all game and despite Listowel tying things up after our first goal, Mitchell eventually sealed the deal with a 7 to 1 victory.

On February 20th the team played in Monkton again, but this time it was a Central Perth home game. There wasn’t much action in the 1st and 3rd periods, but the 2nd period made up for both. Central Perth definitely outshot Mitchell, but it didn’t matter as we got the first goal of the game when Curtis DEJONG "CHEESE" drove that puck hard into the back of the net with the assistance of Cole WILTON and fresh-off-the-disabled-list Jaden FAULKNER. Half a period later Central Perth answered back and tied things up. The game was forced into a 10 minute overtime period which resulted in nothing but a final score of 1 to 1.

The very next night (February 21st) the team travelled to Harriston to take on the Minto Mad Dogs. Minto brought their A game and started the scoring early in the 2nd period. Now, from my vantage point it was difficult to tell if it was Minto who scored that first goal or if it was Mitchell, but regardless...it was in our net. A minute and change later Mitchell did score in their opponents net, a real beaut I might add, as YOST deflected the puck back to PUFF from the faceoff and PUFF sent it right past their goalie tying things up and acquiring his first goal of the season! Minto scored again to take the lead, but that didn’t last long as Joey HILL picked up a rebound shot with only a few seconds remaining in the 2nd leaving the scoreboard reading 2 to 2. The 3rd period was uneventful so, as a result, we went into OT…again! This period was stressful and a tad bit rough for a "no body contact" league, but Mitchell persevered and YOST ended the game with his ever famous one-timer that actually hit the net this time!

Playoff action will continue this Sunday as the boys host Central Perth in Mitchell at 8:40pm. Good luck!
