DECEMBER ROAD TRIP(S)
The Scotiabank Bantam LL’s took to the road for three games in a row in December.

On Monday, December 12th the boys travelled north where they battled hard against the first place Ripley Wolves. Ripley scored twice in the first period, but Kole HUNT assisted by Cole WILTON answered back early in the second period keeping this game tight. The puck travelled back and forth from end to end all game long keeping the fans on their toes. Goalie Stevie DAUM has clearly been going to his mom’s gym as he demonstrated some very acrobatic type moves in order to stop Ripley’s plethora of shots on net. Ripley upped the ante in the third period with another goal, but Curtis CHAFFE planted an unassisted goal top shelf to narrow the gap on the score board. Unfortunately, there just wasn’t enough time for the Mitchell boys to catch up and the game ended in a 3 to 2 win for the Wolves.

On Sunday, December 18th when most people are sitting down to have supper we were sitting down to watch our boys play hockey. Lucky for them, it was a great game, so we didn’t mind so much. Mitchell’s offense was on fire launching shot after shot at Goderich’s goalie to no avail. Mitchell’s defense too was having a stellar game. As the boys entered the second period, down by one, Kurtis DEJONG made a perfect pass to WILTON who shot the puck to the back of the net and tied things up. A couple minutes later, DEJONG and WILTON assisted Will STEINBACH and the team had now taken the lead. Once again, DAUM was all over the place and actually did a legit cartwheel to stop a shot. Defenceman, Jaden FAULKNER, aka the "speed demon" caught up to every single skater who attempted to score on his goalie and foiled their shots with ease. Goderich must have caught a second wind, for they tied things up by the end of the second. If only this was the end of the story, but alas we have one more period and this is when Mitchell started to fall apart. Not sure if they needed a sandwich or what, but their gumption was dwindling. Which was evident when they had a 5 on 3 power play followed by a 4 on 3 power play and just could not seem to get the puck in the net. The game ended as a 4 to 2 win for Goderich.

On Friday, December 23rd with only two sleeps before Christmas morning the boys played the Blyth-Brussels Crusaders in the frigid cold arena in downtown Brussels. If trips to the sin bin counted as goals then we would have kicked butt in this game but, sadly, they do not. So, as a result, the Crusaders won 3 to 0.

I’m looking forward to a busy month of hockey in January. Keep working hard boys!
