MCR Atom LL's Are Champs at Wainfleet Tournament!!
What a weekend!  The MCR Collision Center Atom LL's went undefeated over the weekend at Wainfleet to take top spot in the tournament!  The team gave their all through five games and it all paid off on Sunday when they defeated the Essa Eagles in the final to take home the trophy.  Way to go boys!

Early Saturday morning the Meteors faced off against the Essa Eagles in round robin play.  They gave up a power play goal early to go down 1-0.  The nerves would settle and the boys would soon tie it up on a top corner goal by Jacob Dietrich midway through the period.  Not to be outdone, Brandon Dietrich would score just a minute and a half later to put Mitchell out in front by one.  After two goals in the second period by Sam Huettlin (including a coast to coast rush with a bar-down finish), the Meteors would roll on to a 5-1 victory.  Ethan Dearing would take MVP of the game honours for being a rock on defense as always.

Up next in the round robin would be the team from Woolwich.  Just 28 seconds in, Grayson Yost would score on a nice passing play to open the scoring.  The Meteors would dominate the rest of the game, scoring six more goals en route to a 7-0 victory.  Huettlin would add two more to his total and other goal scorers would include Wade Campbell, Jeromy Vandewalle, and Payton Wood.  Vandewalle would be named the game's MVP.

The boys would finish the round robin with a maximum 10 points and move on to play Woolwich again Sunday morning in the quarter finals.  This would prove to be a much tighter game than the first meeting.  Grayson Yost would score early in second, top corner.  Woolwich would answer midway through the second.  But thanks to his hard work in the corners, Wade Campbell would score short-handed late in the second to regain the lead.  Campbell would add another in the third and Mitchell would take the game 3-1.  Keagan Meinen was tested several times in this game but stood tall in net and was named MVP.

The team would then face the hometown favourite Wainfleet Wild.  Three goals in the first period would put the Meteors in control early.  Yost, Vandewalle, and Campbell were the goal scorers.  Yost would add another in the second going end to end.  The rest of the game, Mitchell's defense would take over.  Liam Brodhagen and Bradley Dearing were strong on the blueline and kept the puck out of their zone.  4-0 was the final and the boys were off to the final.  Another shut-out for Meinen and MVP for Wade Campbell.

Mitchell would meet Essa in the final in a rematch of the first game.  It would not disappoint.  The first two periods featured intense end to end action.  No score heading into the second.  Essa would strike first early in the second but Bentley Phillips scored for Mitchell just seconds later to tie it.  Wade Campbell would bury one in front of the net shortly after and Mitchell had the lead.  But Essa would answer with one of their own before the second was over to knot things up at 2 heading to the third.  The Meteor offense would come alive in the third as the boys had their sights on victory.  Huettlin, Yost, and Brandon Dietrich showcased their talents with three nice goals in the third.  The boys would take the game 5-2 and win the tournament!  Grayson Yost and Bentley Phillips would be named co-MVPs of the final game and defensive juggernauts Lucas Mahon and Jack Van Loon would accept the Wainfleet Tournament trophy!

Congratulations to the Mitchell MCR Collision Center Atom LL's for an excellent tournament!  Everyone worked hard this weekend on their way to a well deserved victory!
