On Top Of Playoff & Playdown Pools
What a great weekend of hockey from our SunLife-Paul Van Gerwen girls as they remain undefeated in both their round robin playoff pool and play downs for Provincals.

Saturday afternoon on our turf, the South Huron Sabres made the treck through the snow to once again try and steal the momentum of our Meteors on the road to Provincals.  As both theses teams have played many times during the season we all knew this game was going to be intense and one that you sit on the edge of your seat till the end! Right from the faceoff, the high flying Metors took the lead with Brooklyn G scoring and Erica P helping her all the way.  The remainder of the first period was exciting to watch as our goalie Makayla B made some amazing saves by blocking shots and stretching as far as she could to prevent them from the equalizer and ending the period with us up by 1.  Second period play was much the same as the previous period with high intensity from both teams and South Huron not backing down as they wanted to square the game up and that is exactly what they did in the last couple minutes.  Going into the third period was anyone's game as each team wanted the victory and he bragging rights to the win.  As minutes started counting off the clock in this final period of play, South Huron caught our goalie just off guard and took the 2-1 lead.  Play continued as the girls faced off again but with determination in their eyes to get that goal back, Meg S would score unassisted to tie the game and giving the rest of the team the incentive for the win.  With time almost at the end and a tie looking to end the game, Emma F with the help of Taya C made a beautiful shot to place it in the net for the advantage.  Girls leading 3-2. As the buzzer was almost ready to sound and the clock showing 0.01 on it, Emma F sealed the victory by scoring on the empty net from Alyssa E.  The puck was in the net and game was over giving our "red hot" girls their 3rd consecutive win in their Provincal play down quest.
Yesterday morning, everyone was up early as we were unsure if our league playoff rematch against Sarina was still on but with only a few road closures and still open road to Sarina, the team bundled up and headed on our way just before 8am.  The Sting would be in for a challenge as the girls were moviated and ready to get out and stretch their legs after the long car ride!  As this game got started you could tell that our girls were ready as they dominated those Sting girls and kept the play out of our end for the majority of the period.  With the great passing and play making from line mates Brooklyn G and Erica P, Emma F would open the scoring and give us the loan goal of the period.  Second period was back and fourth with both teams getting shots on either goalie but they both were solid as rocks keeping the score the same 1-0 for us.  With the Meteors starting the final period of this game short handed, this was the opptunity Sarina needed to dig the puck out from our goalie and just tap it past to tie the game.  Just seconds later Ava G would clear the puck from our end to the stick of Emma F who took a shot but the Sting goalie blocked it but as the goalie was down Brooklyn G would flip it up over her to gain back the lead.   Time was winding down and our girls were still playing strong by frustrating the Sarina girls as they weren't giving them the room they needed to set up their plays.  With the play back in the Sting's end, Brooklyn G fought for puck possession and was able to pass it to Erica P who would score to secure the win 3-1.
Our Atom girls now sit in first place after the first week of playoffs. Congratulations on the great team effort so far with your playoffs and play downs, let's keep it going!
