Atom Girls still on a winning streak!
The Sunlife-VanGerwen Atom Girls are still on a roll after their Pink on the Rink Championship win with 2 wins and a tie in the final few regular season games this past weekend.

The girls continued their winning streak on Thursday night against Woolwich blanking them 4-0.  Jaimie B opened the scoring with strong presents around their net and able to poke the puck just in behind their goalie from a solid pass from Emma F, this would be the loan goal of the period.  With 4 seconds left in the second period, Erica P scored top shelf to add to our lead.  Third period play was much the same as the start of the game with us not giving Woolwich much opportunity to skate but our goalie Makayla B was a rock and denied them of all their chances.  Erica P and Emma F would each add a marker during this period to seal up the game.

Saturday night back in Mitchell, the girls would face a tough challenge as a rematch against South Huron was on the ice.  South Huron had something to prove from the previous weekend and they were ready!  Half way through the first period and from the faceoff, South Huron was in our face and wanted the first goal and that was exactly what they did to get the advantage. We were down by one after the first period. Again all the momentum was in South Huron's favor as our girls just seemed a bit slow and just couldn't seem to keep up the pace.  South Huron would add to the lead as they knocked a rebound in by our goalie Makayla B as she was scrambling to stretch out as much as she could but just couldn’t cover the net.  Jaimie B scored with 3 minutes left in the period to cut the lead to 1.  Erica P was there for the assistance.  Third period was fast paced for both teams as we just wanted to get the equalizer to square the game back.  Taya C, skated the puck up the ice and found Emma F waiting for the pass and the shot taken was good, game tied at 2 with just over 5 minutes left.  The last few minutes was intense but wouldn't result in anything more but a tie 2-2.  The girls needed to get a good rest and be ready to play the next day in Monkton.

Lucan made the trip to Monkton to play the first game of a home-home series to be continued next Saturday.  Our Meteors were rested and ready to play as Erica P scored a beautiful top shelf goal just 15 seconds into the game as Emma F found her open waiting for the pass.  Emma F would add to our loan goal of the period as line mates Erica P and Meg S set her up.  The score was 2-0 for the “red hot” girls after the first.  Second period started and Emma F would increase the lead with her second goal of the game with Brooklyn G right there as well.  Despite the effort of the girls, Lucan wanted a goal and they got it by the puck just bouncing off our goalie’s stick and in behind her, cutting the lead and the second period would end with us up by 2.  The third period the girls tried numerous times to add to our lead but the Lucan goalie found her game and wasn't letting anything by, with the game winding to the end, Lucan would add to the score but ran out of time to settle the game.  Final score was 3-2 for us.

The girls now have all week to rest and get ready for a weekend of travel to Lucan on Saturday and Mooretown on Sunday.
