Pink on the rink Champions
The SunLife- Paul VanGerwen Atom Girls played in the Pink on the Rink tournament this past weekend and won the Atom C division championship. Our coaching staff was also ready with pink on!

The Atom girls first game in the tournament was cancelled against Lucknow-Wingham due to weather, their next game was Friday night and they were happy to play. They faced off against North Middlesex and never looked back as we dominated the game. Emma F and Erica P opened the scoring during the first period with good passing and play making by Brooklyn G.  The scoring duo of Emma F and Erica P striked again and added to our 2 goal lead to take our lead to 4-0 after the second period.  Taya C and Brooklyn G assisted on both of the goals.  The third period was played much the same way as the first two periods with strong puck possession and strong pressure around the net, Alyssa E got one by the North Middlesex goalie from line mates Jaimie B and Charlee F.  A few minutes later, Emma F would score her 3rd goal of game for the hat trick from a sweet pass from Erica P. Our defence pairs of Taya C, Meg S, Ava G and Brett G held the blue line and gave our forwards the opptunities they needed to score and Makayla B wasn't very busy this game as she saved the couple of shots that she had to earn the shutout. Final score was 6-0.
After the first day of the tournament and round robin play finished, the Mitchell Meteors were in second place, earning them a game against the fifth place team, Lucknow-Wingham. Saturday night was game night in Exeter and the girls were determined to win to play in the Semi Finals on Sunday. In the first minute of play, Brooklyn G scored unassisted and Emma F and Taya C would add a couple more within the last few minutes of the first period to give us the 3-0 lead.  Emma F earned the hat trick during the second period from the play making of Erica P and Brooklyn G. Lucknow-Wingham was able to tap a rebound in by our goalie Makayla B to get them on the board and stop her shutout streak.  After the second period, we were leading 6-1 but the girls didn't stop as they added another 3 goals, Emma F and Erica P each added one with team mate Jaelyn M adding the third goal of the period with Emily D and Brooklyn G providing their assistance to seal the game for us and the victory 9-1.  With this win, the SunLife - VanGerwen girls would be playing in the Semi Final on Sunday morning against rivals South Huron.
Semi Final morning was here and the girls were pumped and ready to play.  This game was an amazing, exciting and nail biting game to watch for us parents and the coaches as neither team was willing to back down and Makayla B and the Sabres goalie were solid as rocks! Both team had chances but after three periods of intense hockey, a five minute sudden death overtime was needed, if overtime didn't settle the game then a 3 player shootout would decide the game.  Overtime started and again neither team was backing down as the goal scored would seal a date in the Championship game against TCDMHA later this afternoon.  Play was back and fourth and in the last couple of minutes the Meteors put the hammer down and kept the play in South Huron's end, Erica P took a shot from inside the blue line towards their net and with a huge scamble of Meteors and Sabres in front of their goalie, Erica P got her rebound and poked it behind the goalie with 50.9 seconds left in the overtime to win the game and the right to move on to the Championship game. Wow, what a game!
Championship game time was delayed at bit due to the other finals before us but the girls were again pumped and ready to get this game started against TCDMHA.  Play was back and fourth during all the periods but TCDMHA opened the scoring with a quick wrist shot to give them the 1 goal lead after the first period. The second period the girls started a bit slow but Makayla B stood tall and strong and didn't allow anymore in despite all their chances and the TCDMHA goalie was just as good.  After two periods of play we were still down by 1. Halfway through the third period period Emma F scored unassisted glove side and less than a minute later from a stellar pass from Brooklyn G, Emma F buried her second goal of the game and gave us the 2-1 lead.  With 6 minutes left in the game, TCDMHA was putting the pressure to us but the girls aggressiveness and leaving everything on the ice to kept the puck out of our end to come away with a huge win 2-1 to win the Atom C division in the tournament.
Great effort all weekend girls - way to go and Congratulations on being the Atom Pink on the Rink Champions!
