Girls still on a winning streak
The SunLife- VanGerwen Atom Girls are on a streak in the last couple of weeks with a record of 4 wins, 1 loss and a tie in our league games.

The girls only loss in the last couple of weeks came against Sarina on November 15th. We were able to get on the scoreboard first with Emma F taking a shot on net and Brooklyn G getting the rebound. Sarina answered right back with a couple quick goals to give them the lead after the first. During the second, Sarina added to their lead but with just a few minutes left in the third, Erica P scored with help from Brooklyn G to cut their lead to 1. The girls continued to press hard but just ran out of time to tie it up.
The next day the team traveled to South Huron. Emma F opened the scoring with Erica P providing the help. South Huron scored a few minutes later to square it up at 1.  The play was back and fourth during the second but Makayla B and the South Huron goalie stood tall and didn't let anything by.  Our girls continued to play a solid game and dominated the third with Erica P adding 2 and Emma F and Taya C each scoring to give us the win 5-1.
Our next game was in Monkton on November 29th against Petrolia.  Alot of this game was spent in the center ice as neither team wanted to give each other room to skate. No score after the first. With just seconds left Emma F scored her first of three goals in this game for the hattrick, Brett G and Jaimie B and Brooklyn G gave Emma the chances to bury the puck.  Makayla B wasn't very busy this game but did make a couple of good saves late in the third to get the shutout win 3-0.
On December 7th was a rematch against Sarina.  Sarina opened the scoring on a breakaway shot in the first few minutes of the game but after that Makayla B played a great game making sure they didn't get anything else pass her. Mitchell was able to tie the game up in the third but with the time running out, we just couldn't get the chance to take the lead. The game ended with a tie at 1.
This past weekend, the girls had a game on both Saturday and Sunday. Saturday's game was at home against Woolwich. Our girls started this game with some fire as they weren't giving Woolwich any opportunities to skate with the puck. Emma F scored a goal in each of the periods and Taya C and Emily D added a goal in the second. Everyone played hard and were aggressive towards the puck. Makayla B earned the shutout.
The next day we all had a road trip to Petrolia for the rematch game. This game was similar to our other game as neither team gave each other many chances. This game was scoreless after 2 periods despite the chances we had on the their goalie. Taya C took a shot from the point and caught the Petrolia goalie off guard and it went into the net, after facing off at the center, Emma F skated around a few Petrolia players and made a nice shot on the goalie to knock it behind her to give us the 2 goal lead. Makayla B was there when needed to close the door and got the back to back shutout for the weekend.
The girls have a game coming up against Lambeth before the Christmas break.
The team has played some great games, let's continue to show the other teams what we are made of!
