Great Team work in the Stratford Tournament
The Atom Girls had a great weekend of hockey during the Stratford tournament this past weekend, with 3 wins and a tie in round robin play and the chance to play in the Semi Finals.

The tournament started bright and early on Friday morning with our first game at 8am against Walkerton. Charlee F opened the scoring with help from Meg S and Jaimie B with just a few minutes left in the period to give us the lead after 1.  During the second period, play was back and fourth but Erica P and Emma F would add to our lead. Brooklyn G and Ava G assisted Erica, while good passing and puck movement by Charlee F and Erica P gave Emma the chance to knock the rebound in. Walkerton was able to sneak one pass Makayla B to put them on the board.  After the second period we were up 3-1.  In the third the girls continued to press hard and Emma F was able to score a pair to seal the game with a final score 5-1.
The girls had a bit of a break before their next game at 1pm in St Marys against the St Mary's Rock.  We started the game a little slow but as the game continued so did the pace.  Neither team was able to score during the first period but Emma F was finally able to get us on the score board with a beautiful goal with great passing from Brooklyn G and Erica P with just 53 seconds left in the 2nd.  Emily D scored our second goal of the game with Emma F and Erica P providing their assistance. With just 5 mins left in the game, the pressure was on and neither team was backing down, St Mary's had some good shots on Makayla B but she was solid and didn't allow anything pass.  In the last couple of minutes we were adwared a penalty shot, Emma F was given the chance to score and she did, securing the the lead. Makayla B earned the shutout with the final score 3-0.
This gave the girls the confidence to keep playing hard for their next 2 round robin games the following day.
Again another early start for the girls on Saturday against the Lucan Irish.  This was a back and fourth game and was very exciting to watch as both goal tenders were solid and made some stellar saves.  This game was scoreless until 1:15 left in the third with Taya C going end to end and taking a shot that just got in pass the Lucan goalie to give us the lead. With the clock winding down, Lucan got a break away from their end and took a hard shot at Makayla B but she stood tall and kept it out of our net and we were able to clear from the zone to end the game. This was Makayla B's second shutout of the tournament. Final score was 1-0.
In the afternoon the girls played the Lambeth Lancers, this game started off quick with both teams having something to prove.  Lambeth was able to get on the scoreboard first and giving them the advantage after the first.  The second period started off very much like the first with both teams having some great scoring chances but both goalies doing what they do best and keeping it out of their nets. With some great pressure from us, Taya C was able to tuck in the puck behind the Lambeth goalie to square the game at 1.  The third period was busy for each team as neither back down and wanted the win but both goalies were up for the chanellege and held the game at 1. Final score was 1-1, this giving both teams a 3 win, 1 tie record and a chance to play in the Semi Finals on Sunday.
It was semi final action on Sunday morning with rematch against the Lambeth Lancers.  We knew this was going to be a tough match as from the previous game.  Lambeth opened the scoring in the first period with a bouncing puck rebound.  In the second period, Lambeth was able to add to their lead to give them the 2 goal lead going into the third. Our defensive pairs of Taya C, Meg S, Ava G and Brett G provided solid pressure and presents to give the forwards the chances they needed.  Great pressure from our forwards, Jaimie B, Emily D, Alyssa E, Charlee F, Emma F, Brooklyn G, Jaelyn M, Erica P had some good chances to score but were not able to get one in until Erica P and Taya C were able to move the puck around the Lambeth players and pass to Emma F to lift it over the Lambeth goalie to get us on the board and cut the lead to 1.  Lambeth was able to add to their score and give them the 3-1 win.
The SunLife- Paul VanGerwen Atom girls played great all weekend and represented Mitchell well.
