Season Update
The SunLife - Paul VanGerwen Atom girls have played some excellent hockey over the last couple of weeks.
On October 25th the team traveled to South Huron to play the Sabres. No scoring after the first period but each team had some good chances. Mitchell was able to get on the scoreboard first half way through the second period with a solid shot on net by Emma F and Alyssa E being right there to tap in the rebound. During the third South Huron were able to get a couple pass Makayla B and without lack of trying our girls just weren't able to get the bounce they needed for the tie. Game ended 2-1 for South Huron.
A few nights later we went for a road trip to St Thomas to play the Panthers in an exhibition game. We started off a bit slow and allowed St Thomas to get the first and their only goal of the game but Emily D with help from Charlee F tied the game at 1 with just 13 seconds left in the period. Emma F scored are only goal in the second with Erica P and Brooklyn G providing their assistance. Erica P scored a pair of goals in the third period from some good passing from Brooklyn G and Meg S. 4-1 was the final score with Makayla B giving the team some solid goaltendering and shutting down the Panthers.
The girls next game was at home on November 1st against Woodstock. The team played a great game and didn't give Woodstock much room to skate or take shots on Makayla B. We scored a pair of goals in the first period by Emma F and Alyssa E. During the second period we played the majority of the period in their end and the score board showed that with Erica P scoring a pair, Jaimie B, Emma F, Brooklyn G all adding one. Assisting on the goals were Taya C, Charlee F, Jaelyn M. The third period was similar play as the previous period with us knocking another 4 pass their goalie. Emma F scored a pair and Brooklyn G and Emily D added the others. Charlee F, Brett G, Jaimie B and Alyssa E were there adding the help. Makayla B earned another shutout with the final score of 11-0.
The next day we traveled to Woolwich to play. This was a tough game for our girls as Woolwich seemed to be more aggressive to the puck and didn't back down. They scored both of their goals in the first period which gave them the lead after 1. During the second period the girls had some good chances but a solid goaltender from Woolwich kept shutting us down. Taya C was able to get one by their goalie with solid passing from Brooklyn G and Meg S to cut their advantage to one. The third period was back and fourth play but we were not able to tie up he game. Score was 2-1 for Woolwich. This was the last game of the first half for the girls, they had a great first half of season and ready to take on the rest of the season.
Our first regular season game was in Lambeth on Nov 8th. At the start of the game, Lambeth came out flying and kept the play in our end for the majority of the first, their first shot on net was a top shelf shot goal, but that was the only goal that Makayla B allowed that period. The second period was similar to the first with the score still 1-0 for them. During the third they were able to get another couple by Makayla B to give them the win 3-0.
This weekend we have a couple of games, one at home on Saturday against the Sarina Lady String and a rematch in South Huron on Sunday. Good luck girls!
