METEORS ADVANCE TO WOAA CHAMPIONSHIP SERIES
The New Orleans Pizza Peewees have continued with their WOAA round robin playoffs after taking game one versus Blyth Brussels in Mitchell back in mid-February.

On Feb 27th the Meteors traveled to Teeswater for the first of a home & home match up. In the opening period the Otters held a slight advantage in shots but Tanner Knechtel kept things deadlocked at zero. With two and a half minutes left in the second period Jacob Deck and Judd Walker set up Jake Prezscator to put the Meteors up 1-0 to go to the intermission. In the final frame, Jacob McPhee netted an unassisted marker to make it 2-0. Two minutes later Jarett Vogels set up Ryan Murray for a power-play goal to extend the lead. The Otters then made it interesting with a pair of power-play goals of their own to cut the Mitchell lead to 3-2. With just over four minutes to go the Otters took another penalty which Mitchell capitalized on thanks to Murray assisted by Preszcator and Ryan Harmer to end the scoring 4-2.

Two nights later Mitchell hosted a return trip by the Otters. This time the visitors came out of the gate early and posted a 1-0 lead in the first minute of play. Early in the second the Meteors’ Jarett Vogels and Stephen Bird   scored two goals 23 seconds apart to quickly jump ahead. Teeswater evened it up once again with another power-play goal followed 43 seconds later by a goal from Quaid Austin to put the Meteors ahead once again by a score of 3-2. Jacob McPhee added further insurance making it 4-2 which proved to be all the Meteor’s needed with no scoring from either club in the third thanks to Mitchell net minder Riley Deline. Assists went to Curtis Lockhart with two and singles to Austin, Bird, Ryan Murray, Kaleb Baker, Judd Walker and Reid Ramseyer. The win kept the Meteors perfect in round robin play with three wins.

In the final round robin contest the Meteors made the trip to Blyth / Brussels to take on the Bull Dogs. Once again their opponents came out fast to take the early lead just over a minute in. The boys held their composure and were rewarded midway through the period with a power play goal from Judd Walker assisted by Ryan Murray. In the opening minute of the second period it was Mitchell’s turn to light up the board in the first minute thanks to a feed from Stephen Bird to Jacob McPhee to make it 2-1. Before going to the intermission McPhee would be the helper getting it to Murray who made no mistake to give his team a 3-1 lead. The Meteors replied early in the third with a solo effort by McPhee to make it 4-1. The Bull Dogs, true to their name would not roll over and kept clawing their way back with a pair of power play goals to tighten it up 4-3 with seven minutes to play. Tanner Knechtel slammed the dog house door shut and the Meteors held on for the win. The win gave Mitchell a perfect record in WOAA round robin play and now advances to play for the WOAA League Championship versus Mount Forest Rams. The series schedule was unavailable at press time.
