All tied up!
After a forgettable game last Sunday night, the Mitchell boys needed to regroup and refocus on the Lambeth Lancers coming to town tonight for game 3 in the OMHA semi-finals.
And regroup they did! 36 seconds into the game the Meteors got it deep into the visitors end and C. McMann moved the puck quickly across to Harmer who sent it to the net where Eidt banged it into the back of the net for a quick one goal lead. For the rest of the period the action would be played up and down the ice and Duncan was a force as he made great saves to help his teammates take their slight lead into the 2nd period.
In the second period things got a bit more physical and Mitchell was forced to kill off a penalty early in the frame. Once that was accomplished though, the line of Dietz, Murray and MacLean busted in and MacLean would be the one to finish off the scramble in front of the Lancer's wicket and double their lead to two less than 5 minutes in. Another PK kill would be effective midway though the frame and the Meteors would take a 2-0 lead out of the second.
As the defense core continued to play solid into the 3rd, and the Meteors' lines were gelling, an insurance goal seemed necessary in order to stem off any Lancer comeback bids (as they did last Friday night). Just over three and a half minutes in, Eidt would take a perfect feed from Murray and bury his second of the night to take the home side up by three. But Lambeth wasn't going to sit back and concede as they took advantage of their powerplay to break Duncan's shutout bid late in the game. That would be as close as they'd come though, as Duncan and his teammates shut the door with strong defense and consistent backchecking.
Wow boys! What a great game!
The series is now tied at 3 points each.
