Back to back nights vs. Huron Heat ends with 1 win each
The Ace Garden Centre U13 Meteor Girls battled the Huron
Heat on back to back nights this week.
Game one was a provincial playdown match, with both teams
hungry for chance at progressing to the Provincials tournament in April. The
Meteors scored first to take an early lead in the game on a goal by Ella Sills,
assisted by Avery Wolfe. Another goal was added in the second period to put the
Meteors up by two, on a nice play from Reina Nevin to Danica Voros, who netted
the goal. The Heat pressed hard for the remainder of the game and were rewarded
with a goal of their own to keep the game within reach.
In the final minutes of play, the Heat goalie was pulled as
they pressed harder for the tie. The Meteors were able to defend the lead
ending the game with a 2-1 win. Earning crucial points on the road to
Provincials.
Game two was filled with excitement as the Heat pressed for
redemption from the loss the night before, only this time for playoff points.
Both teams battled hard throughout the game, but the Heat grabbed two goals in
the third period that the Meteors could not respond to. Ally Vanbakel played phenomenally
in net both games stopping many shots and keeping her team in the running,
despite the evenings 2-0 loss.
