U11 Boys in the Bill Carnochan Tournament
McDonald's Valumart U11 Rep boys battled to fit 5 hockey games in 2 days.
Mitchell Meteors U11 rep boys headed to Seaforth to try their hand in the Bill Carnochan Memorial U11 Tournament hosted by the Mid Huron Huskies.
Meteor's first game against the Host Mid Huron Huskies didn't go as planned, Mitchell could not escape the Huskie's bite and lost the match 3 to 0.
Second match of the day pitted the Meteors against the South Huron Sabres. Mitchell came out a lot stronger in this match; an early penalty gave Boston 'Bob' Bamborough a chance to capitalize on a rebound shot from Liam 'Checkers, Chessell for his first goal of the tourney. The boys kept the heat on, 2 minutes later Myles 'Magic Stick' Havens found a beauty pass from Owen 'Crash' Dietrich to net his first of the tourney. Bryce 'Bird Jr' Burdett made quick work of a loose puck all alone in the front of their net, 3 to 0 for Mitchell after 1. Second period had the Sabres finally waking up with a goal seconds after the puck drop and then near the end of the period; Bob answered back at 1:26 after receiving a pass from Steel. Third period gave Crash his opportunity to get his first after accepting a juicy rebound. Final score 5 to 3 Mitchell.
Saturday morning had the boys face a superior (and tournament winner) Saugeen Valley Steelheads. Meteors were not ready for Saugeens quick 3 goals in the first and were only able to beat their tender 3 times for a final score of 8 to 3.
Mitchell then had to face Walkerton back to back in a regular tournament game and then a do or die game for the semi finals; Walkerton beating Mitchell in the first game 2 to 1, Checkers scoring Mitchell's lone goal with a power play snipe from the point. Semi Final had a 'wore out' Meteors facing the formidable Capitals again; Walkerton walking away with the semi final game 5 to 1.
