Triple Crown for Atom LL Squad
The Mitchell Meteor Atom LL team sponsored by MCR Collision Centre, took home the title in the St.Marys atom tournament over the past weekend in dominant fashion.

Over the past weekend the local squad travelled down the road to St.Marys to compete in there atom local league tournament. After 5 straight victories with a goal differential of 31 goals for and only 3 against the meteors were crowned champions. This is the 3rd straight tournament title for the squad, with earlier wins in Collingwood and Wellesley. The tournament opened Friday with a game against the hosts St.Marys. The goals came early and often in this one, the game finished off in an 11-0 Mitchell win. Right winger Quaide Hoskins was a standout in this game with his relentless forechecking. This earned him player of the game. The next game brought a bit more of a test, facing the Belmont rangers. The game was deadlocked after the 1st, then Wes and Ainsley berendsen took the game over. Wes potted 3 goals and Ainsley added 1 with a couple assists. The defence pair of Michael Coyne and Liam Baker were both superb in this game. Nothing got near the net when Baker was on the ice, this earned him player of the game. In the final round robin game the meteors faced a strong Tavistock Titans team. The coaching staff knew they needed to lean heavily on the defence core of Connor Wolfe, Luke Krempien, Grace Bach, baker and coyne. The titans were a much bigger team than the meteors, and brought a real physical game to the table. Wolfe and Bach have never been known to shy away from the hits, and both won battles all game in the corner and in front of the net. The goaltending duo of Leah Kelly and Carter Harris did what they have been doing all year, saved anything that they could see. Both goaltenders needed to hold down the fort at different points in the game, when the titans were starting to take over. 2 of Mitchells top playmakers Nolan rolph and Jack Crowley went to work and potted insurance goals en route to a 4-1 meteors win. Defenceman Luke Krempien was named player of the game for his hard working all over the ice. This set up a semi final match with familiar foes Wingham. The coaches knew if we could pressure them early, they would have a tough time withstanding. So the 2 hardest checkers on the team Dylan dietrich and Dawson Riley went to work. Forechecking hard and crashing the net to bang in a rebound. Both added goals, along with playmaking winger Kayla Visneskie adding a couple helpers that was all the meteors needed for a 6-0 dominant victory. This setup a rematch with the titans. Early on the locals were getting dominated with Kelly needing to stand on her head to keep the titans off the scoreboard. Then powerful winger Greg McKay got a nice  outlet pass from wolfe and broke open the scoring with a big goal. The dominant line of Crowley, rolph and Ainsley berendsen then went right back to work. A play that started with Coyne on the point, passed to D partner Bach, moved down to Ainsley then outfront to rolph and into the back of the net. Gave the meteors a 2-0 lead. The titans then fought back and tied the game late in the 3rd period. Harris was getting peppered and made a key point blank save. Riley, Wes berendsen and visneskie then went on the attack. Buzzing around the titans net, each one of them bangin at the rebound eventually Riley knocked in the eventual game winner. It was one of the teams most thilling games of the year, up there with there OT finals win in there last tournament. The squad now gets ready to travel to Niagara Falls for International Silverstick. The meteors have drawn the Pelham Panthers (hosts) Thornton Tigers (eastern Ontario) and Howard Huskies (Maryland). The coaching staff knows the competition will be stiff, but if we stick to our teams identity of working hard and passing the puck, we will be able to compete
