OMHA Game #4 Home Town Hockey
The Larry Hudson Mitchell Midget Reps hosted the Kincardine Kinucks for the fourth game of  the best of the 6 points series in the OMHA playoffs on Saturday evening in front of a packed house. The Kinucks are leading the series 4 points to 3. Losing any games going forward will eliminate the boys from further OMHA playoff action. After finally conquering the unbeatable league Kinucks last Sunday, there is a slight change in the momentum/atmosphere of this series, knowing the unbeatable are beatable…

As the puck hit the ice to signal the time keeper to start the clock, the battle began between David and Goliath. Both teams came to play, with monstrous hits being thrown and high-light plays of the week continuously being re-made. Mitchell would strike first with Seth Huygen taking control of the puck, quickly passing it up to Conner Lockhart who found Conner McLean sprinting towards the visitors net, sending the black object sizzling passed the Kincardine's goaltender glove. With the home town crowd going crazy, the score board would light up the home side at the 12:11 mark. The Kinucks players and their entourage are stunned, as they found themselves trailing once again in this series, however at 6:56 the visitors quieted the home crowd tying the game 1-1 till the second.

It was obvious both adversaries had come to play hockey tonight and at 13:41, the home favourites would take the lead again with McLean getting his second goal of evening, Lockhart his second assist and Eric Gettler starting the sequence. It would take a questionable call at the 5:21 mark of the second, putting the visiting team on a 5 on 3 advantage, to tie this game once again at 3:37. Kudos go out to Gettler, Hill and Tweddle for the fantastic effort to kill this disadvantage! The second would end and both teams would retire to the dressing rooms for some well desired rest and encouragement.

The third would start and Kincardine would take the lead for the first time at the 13:56 mark. This devastating goal silenced the Mitchell fans as fear of a loss against Goliath swept through the building. As the Mitchell players regrouped, the resilience of this group of boys came through once again as Devin Fenwick gained possession from the visitors and at 12:54 sent 6 ounces of shear home town delight flying through the air into the webbing of Goliath’s net, erupting the home fans into euphoria, tying and eventually ending the game at 3-3.

The two teams head into a 5 on 5, sudden death 10 minute overtime and with the refs putting away their whistles, this combination allowed for some of the best hockey both teams have experienced throughout the season. As opportunities were missed at both ends, the ooo’s and the ahahah’s echoed throughout the building, the tick-tock, tick-tock finally came to an end. This game would finish with the teams splitting the two points.

The Larry Hudson Mitchell Midget Reps are defying the odds in this series because of the heart and fun they are playing with. It is a such a privilege watching these two teams play the game of hockey!!  Next game is Monday, February 3rd in Mitchell at 9 pm. It would be great to see the stands full Monday and cheer the home team on...
