Atom Girls Blank Lambton, Edge St. Thomas in Weekend Action
The Paul Van Gerwen Sun Life Meteor Atom Girls recorded a pair of wins on the weekend to improve to 30-10 overall on the season.
In Monkton on January 19th, the Meteors hosted the Lambton Attack HL team and dominated in the offensive zone all game with a 6-0 win. Abigayle Van Bakel scored a hat trick for Mitchell, and single goals were scored by Emma Groenestege, Leah Kelly and Riley Kipfer who moved up from defense to forward for a couple of shifts and promptly was rewarded. Macie Russwurm recorded the shutout between the pipes.
The locals would travel to St. Thomas on a chilly Sunday to face the Panthers HL and the offense also appeared frozen, barely escaping with a 2-1 victory with the winning goal coming from a Panthers player knocking it into her own net. The goal was credited to Alayna McKay, who also got a stick on it prior to the deflection. Haileigh Templeman scored the other Mitchell goal from Kelly and Van Bakel, and also appeared to have a second goal disallowed later in the game.
