Tough loss to Blyth Brussels
On Thursday, December 1, 2016 the Mitchell Scotia Bank AE hockey team hosted the Rep Blyth-Brussels Crusaders.
The game started out surprising well, with the boys pressuring and challenging the much larger and aggressive team from Blyth-Brussels (B-B). At the end of the first, with the fantastic efforts of our goaltender, Bradley Boville, Mitchell were trailing by just one. The second period brought some goals for the Mitchell team. Josh Edit to Joey Hill to Mark Knill, who started the scoring by blasting a shoot passed B-B goaltender and putting Mitchell on the board. With just seconds remaining in the second, Darren Feltz gained possession of the puck and streaked down the ice by himself, only to be upended just inches from B-B net. A good penalty for B-B, surely preventing a second goal for Mitchell………. but wait, the referee is calling for the most exciting play in hockey………..the penalty shot for Feltz. With hundreds of cheering fans coming to a complete silence, Feltz takes the puck from centre ice, gradually gains momentum, skates towards and focuses on the enemy, clearing his mind of everything going through his head, deeks the goalie and puts Mitchell on the board with another goal……… Well Done! Unfortunately at the end of 45 minutes, Mitchell had posted less goals and had succumbed to the larger and more aggressive Blyth-Brussel Rep team. Over all, the team played well and did not give up playing against the intimating B-B team and should be commanded for their efforts.
