DEGROOT EARNS SHUTOUT IN HIS HOME TOWN
On January 16th, 2015, the Scotiabank Bantam LL team hit the road once again travelling to the metropolis of Harriston to play the Minto Mad Dogs.

The first period the teams were back and forth playing at either end of the rink.  The play was pretty even until Jake MONDEN put the Meteors on the score board with their first goal assisted by Zeke KOERT and Jackson MACARTHUR.  The team continued to work hard for the rest of the period and ended it 1 to 0 for us.

The second period was not even 10 seconds old when Nate BAKER took a shot on net, it was blocked by their goalie, but fortunately his line-mate Connor LOUWAGIE was there for the rebound and placed that puck right between the pipes where it belonged.  Minto managed to bring the action down to our end and gave our goalie, Reid DEGROOT, a workout.  He flawlessly stopped each and every shot made on him.  A visit to the sin bin by one of our own put us at a disadvantage, but that did not faze our boys.  At one point, BAKER took off like a rocket with a breakaway, took his shot and nailed the goalie right in the helmet.  One of these days he is going to get that breakaway goal, it is just a matter of time.  Before the period ended that same player returned to his still warm seat in the penalty box allowing Minto the power play, but in true Meteors form we held them off and finished the period 2 to 0 for us.

The third period our boys were on fire.  This has clearly been their game from start to finish.  Defenseman, Hayden ADAIR, made a nice pass up to MONDEN who skated the puck towards the Minto end.  KOERT and MACARTHUR then took over passing it back and forth until they got the opportunity to shoot and MACARTHUR scored with the assist going to KOERT.  The game was drawing to an end, but BAKER decided to run down the rink one last time, once again on a breakaway and this time that puck landed right in their net.  However, the buzzer sounded first and the goal, in the eyes of the ref, was not counted.  The meteors skated away with a 3 to 0 win and the well-deserved shut out going to DEGROOT (DEGROOT lives in Harriston and we were fortunate enough to have him join our team).

Each and every player gave 100 percent tonight and ended their league play with a solid second place in their standings.  Tomorrow night they head to Mount Forest for an exhibition game.  Good lucks boys.
