On Sunday, March 1, 2015 the
Lockhart Funeral Home Pee Wee LL team hosted the BCH Ice Dogs 1 for another
exciting game of hockey. To date the Mitchell
boys have a win, two losses, and a tie in this playoff series, so they know they
have to work hard in order to win these last four games.
Mitchell and BCH were evenly matched throughout the first and second period. They moved the puck back and forth from end to end without either team scoring. BCH had several shots on net with lots of opportunities to dominate this game, but lucky for us we had Stevie DAUM in net snatching every puck that flew at him. At one point, a BCH player drilled an amazing slap shot from the point midair right on target (our net), but DAUM assumed his normal back catch position preventing the goal and causing an eruption of cheers from his loyal fans.
The score was tied 0 to 0 going into the third period. Mitchell must have gotten a pep talk or something as they started to pick it up a notch. Several shots on net were delivered via Mitchell and finally, as the game was nearing the end, Jaden FAULKNER scored with the assists going to Will STEINBACH and Carter YOST. The team worked hard during this final period. Ryker VANDENBROEK provided excellent defence throughout the game by stealing the puck away from the other team on several occasions. With twenty-one seconds left on the clock and only a slight lead, Cole WILTON safeguarded their lead with one more goal. This time the assist went to YOST and Solomon KOERT. Mitchell skated away with a 2 to 0 win. Nice work boys!
Next game is Sunday, March 8th at 6:15pm in Mitchell against the Blyth Brussels Crusaders Burgundy. They have three games left in this series, so let’s give them a big crowd of cheering fans to motivate them for the win!
