ONE MORE WIN CLOSER TO WINNING THIS SERIES
On Sunday, March 8th the Lockhart Funeral Home Pee Wee LL team hosted the Blyth Brussels Crusaders Burgundy for their sixth game in the WOAA playoff series.  Mitchell has three games left and they need three wins in order to stay in the running for first place.

The puck dropped at 6:15pm and they were off.  Jake WALKER started off the period with a solid shot on net which was blocked by Blyth, but nonetheless set the tone that these boys were here to win.  A few minutes later Mitchell succeeded when Solomon KOERT placed that puck past the goalie and in the net.   Jackson Thorpe, the team captain, got the assist.  It’s always nice to get that first goal of the game, but Blyth Brussels was playing hard, so we needed to get another, and soon.  Jesse JUBINVILLE and the puck met up at centre ice for a brief encounter, but he sent that puck packing heat right at Blyth’s net.  The net resisted the puck and the scoreboard remained motionless.  What did not remain motionless, however, was that Blyth Brussels player who took off like a shot on a breakaway, oh this is bad, this is very bad, get ready Puff (Brent SMITH), BUZZZZZZZZZZZZ!  Phew, he was mere milliseconds away from shooting on our net when the buzzer sounded, thus Mitchell held onto the lead 1 to 0.

In the second period, Ryker VANDENBROEK deked his way up through the neutral zone stopping at the point and delivering a clapper right at the net, unfortunately it did not make it past the goal line.  A lot of skating was done by all but not too many shots on net were made by either team during this period.  With less than three minutes on the clock Wade MONDEN finally got a shot off but instead of it going in top shelf if nailed the cross bar and flew back out on the ice.  Soooooo close!  The period was almost over but there was still time for one more goal, so Cole WILTON made it happen with just 32 seconds left.  THORPE and Denzyl FINLAYSON assisted.  The period ended 2 to 0 us.

It’s often a crapshoot whether or not that flood helps or hinders a team, so despite our 2 goal lead we knew better then to feel too comfortable or even excited.  Blyth Brussels had a good little rest; they flew back out on the ice and scored their first goal within the first minute and a half into the third period.  Fortunately for us, the scoreboard remained dormant until the very last seconds of the game.  Blyth Brussels pulled their goalie and the pressure was on as they upped the ante with a 6 on 5 advantage for them.  Mitchell tried so hard to push them back from their end, but Blyth Brussels wasn’t going anywhere. A few times the puck shot down to their end, but nothing.  They scrambled for what seemed an eternity and then one last ditch effort was made when KOERT passed the puck to VANDENBROEK and he scored on the empty net from our end with just five seconds left in the game.  The clock ran out and the fans leapt to their feet celebrating the exciting win for their boys.  They skated away with a 3 to 1 win.  Great job boys.

The last two games of this round robin series are against Minto.  The first will be at the Harriston arena on Wednesday, March 11th at 7:40pm and the second is in our barn on Sunday, March 15th at 7:40pm.  See you there.
