Mitchell AE’s lose thriller final in Mitchell Peewee tournament The locals lost a heart breaking 2-1 final to a very strong Mount Brydges team. Mt. Brydges open the scoring early in the second period but a strong kick mid way through the same frame evened the scoring as Tristan Beehler put the puck in the open cage. Ben Small and Tyson McIntosh got the assists. The game stayed that way until 6 secs left in regulation as a hard shot from the top of the circle beat game and tournament MVP James Copeland.
In the semi finals, the locals prevailed in double overtime as Landan Templeman scored the winner, with a shot from just inside the blue line. Ben Small got the assist. Brendan Boville scored 2 and Small had the other. In the round robin portion of the tournament, Mitchell opened the event with a 1-1 tie with Lambeth. Jared McCarthy scored Mitchell’s goal with assists from Clayton McCarthy and Kurtis Forrest. A late goal by Lambeth forced the tie. Mitchell’s next game would be against Niagra on the Lake, the locals would score 2 3rd period goals and hang on for the 2-1 victory. Beehler scored from Small and Templeman. Then 1 minute later, Boville would score from Templeman and Kurtis Forrest. Niagara would score a late goal to make it interesting but that would be a close as they would come. The final round robin game the locals would face the Mt. Brydges team. A tough 2-1 loss would put the locals into 3rd place. After falling behind 2-0, Small would make it close with 3 minutes left to go, but that was as close as they would get. Jared McCarthy and Clayton McCarthy would get the assists. A great team effort was shown by the players.
