Goderich 74th Young Canada Week Tournament
Over the weekend the E&G Masonry U18 LL Mitchell Meteors took part in the Young Canada Week Hockey Tournament in Goderich Ontario.  This year the tournament would see six teams entered, Huron Bruce Blizzard (White), Saugeen Valley Steelheads, Kincardine Kinucks (LL1), Wingham Ironmen and the home team Goderich Sailors.

Mitchell would open up the tournament on Thursday, March 13th 2025 for a 2:00pm game against Kincardine.  Your Meteors would be hot out of the gates with Rogan Catalan picking up the hat trick for three goals and Darious Ladd adding two of his own.  Porter Smith would also put on a strong performance in net earning a shut out to take the first game 5 to 0.

The following morning Friday, March 14th, 2025 Mitchell would face the Wingham Ironmen.  Aedan McCann would get the call in net and also put up a solid performance for the Meteors.  Mitchell would strike fast as Jack Crowley would send a pass to Griffin Bree behind the net who would find Adam Hunt out front to score the first goal of the game 15 seconds in.  Next Lucas Bree would pick up a puck and skate it up out the zone to find Nolan Rolph who would send a sweet back hand saucer pass right on the tape of Rogan Catalan sending him in alone to put the Meteors up 2 to 0 at 3:49 of the first.  in the second period Wingham would strike at 5:03 bringing the Ironmen within a goal.  Then Tyler Scherbarth would find Cam Schoonderwoerd open along the boards who would make a perfect pass to Max Hannon who would restore Mitchell's 2 goal lead.  50 seconds later, Darious Ladd would send a pass to Jake Richardson who would find Adam Hunt who would bury his second of the game.  The Ironmen would add a goal in the third period with Mitchell down 5 on 3.  But Mitchell would take game two 4 to 2.

With a long three hour break between games the Meteors would face the Mid-Huron Huskies later that Friday Afternoon.  Porter Smith would get the call in net for this one and even though Mitchell put up an extremely tough battle they would lose this one 3 to 1.  The only goal coming late in the third period with Rogan Catalan scoring and Nolan Rolph assisting.

Mitchell would finish second overall in regulation play setting up a semi-final match against the third place Saugeen Valley Steelheads.  Aedan McCann would get the call in net playing a really strong game.  However, the Meteors would lose this one in another really tough battle 2 to 0.  

Mitchell would then meet up with the Kincardine Kinucks later Saturday afternoon to determine third place.  In this game Mitchell would strike first with Cam Schooderwoed cycling down low to Dominic Ladd who would find Adam Hunt to put Mitchell up 1 to 0 at 6:45 of the first.  Kincardine would then go on to score 3 goals going up 3 to 1.  With time running out, Owen Beuermann would find Jack Crowley in front of the net at 4:55 to bring Mitchell within a goal.  Mitchell would lose this game 3 to 2.

Mitchell will play their final playdown game of the season tonight in Mitchell at 7:00pm.  Come on out and cheer the boys on.
