Playdowns - Game #2 vrs Huskies 1
If you weren't at the Mitchell arena Sunday, February 23rd, 2025 to watch your E&F Mitchell Meteors U18 LL take on the Mid-Huron Huskies 1 you missed out on a barn burner! Both these teams finished with 25 points during the regular season and the game couldn't have been played any tighter.
Getting the call between the pipes for this home game action was Aedan McCann. Aedan and the solid D core in front of him, Darious Ladd, Grady Smith, Lucas Bree, Tyler Sherbarth, Seth P and Wyatt B would pressure the Huskies hard the entire night.
The first period looked like it would end dead locked at zero until Dominic Ladd picked up a loose puck along the boards and broke free with Griffin Bree burning up the left side to turn it into a two on one. Dominic Ladd would send a perfect back hand saucer pass over to Griffin Bree who would make no mistake one timing it to give the boys a 1 to 0 lead with 1:28 left in the first period.
Early on into the second period, Jack Crowley would steal a puck off a Huskie forward and dangle his way through two more defenders and unload a wrist shot off the post. Jake Richardson would be in his office at the side of the net and slam that puck home to go up 2 to 0 at 14:33. Later in the second with the Meteors in some penalty trouble the Huskies would capitalize on a power play bringing them within a goal.
After a much needed flood the Meteors were pressed deep in their own zone and the Huskies would strike again to tie the game up at 2 all 14:08 into the third. With the pressure on again, Jake Richardson would put in a gritty effort in the Huskies corner eventually making a sweet pass back to Seth P, who would let a laser of a shot rip top corner to put Mitchell back in the lead 3 to 2. With Mitchell tightening up the defense and game play the unthinkable happened when a Huskies defender hiding up high by the blue line would get the puck and go in alone to tie the game up at 3 to 3 to send it to overtime.
With everyone on the edge of their seats in tremendous end to end action the Huskies would do it a second time finding a player hiding out deep sending him in alone to take the win 9:05 into overtime.
This one stung, but you can help the boys out with a road trip to Arthur this Wednesday night as your Meteors meet up with the red hot Vipers 1 for game three of their playdowns.
