TNT Ring in the New Year Classic Tournament
This weekend your E&F Masonry Mitchell Meteor U18LL traveled to the New Tecemseth Rec Center in Alliston, ON to compete in the TNT Ring in the New Year Classic Tournament.

The first game of the tournament would see your Meteor's taking on the Walkerton Capitals at 11am.  After the long flight into Alliston the boys had some jet leg to fight off.  Porter Smith would get the start in net against the Capitals and would play outstanding to keep the game close.  Rogan Catalan would start the Meteors off with a pretty goal 7:25 into the first period of play.  With Walkerton pressing hard, they would even it up with 39 seconds left in the first period.  Early into the second period Walkerton would strike on a power play goal to go up 2 to 1.  At the 6:17 mark of the second period, Adam Hunt would score on a rocket of a shot from the corner deflecting in off the goalie to tie it a 2 all.  In the end, the Meteor's could just not hold off the Capitals as they would go up 3 to 2 with 3:46 left in the third period to start the tournament with a loss.

With some rest after game one, the Meteors returned to action against the TCDMHA Rebels.  Aiden McCann would get the call in net and put on another classic performance.  The Meteors would play a tight match with no goals scored through the first period for either team.  Then at 8:59 of the second period the Rebels would strike to go up 1 to 0.  But the Meteors did not give up, they pressed harder and with 0.41 seconds left in the second Rogan Catalan would score to tie it all up.  The third period would be an offensive explosion as Jake Richardson would score at 8:31, followed by Griffin Bree at 8:15 to give the Meteors a two goal lead.  At the 5:08 mark of the third Tyler Sherbarth would unleash and drop the hammer on a blast from the point to put an explanation mark on this 4 to 1 win.

With much needed rest from the trip to Alliston the team was quickly bused over to the Allure Hotel in the Heart of beautiful Barrie Ontario.  Here the team would refuel, each getting a nutritious meal, hydration and a quick rest.  Although not manditory or even required, the team got together and asked to take advantage of the time available to improve their game. The boys were hard at it in the gym, pool, and sauna spanning into the late hours of the night. With their minds now clear and in peak physical condition we headed out for game one versus Arthur Vipers.

Porter Smith would get the call for this early morning match up and he was dialed in as he stopped a flury of shots and break away opportunities to hold the Meteors in this one with some outstanding play.  The Vipers would strike first at 6:03 of the first period.  With Porter still dialed in. the Vipers and Meteors would go scoreless through the second period.  The third period would see the Vipers score twice short handed to take a 3 to 0 lead.  However, Darious Ladd would step up and into a blast that no one could see with 59 seconds left in action ending the game in a 3 to 1 loss.

Aiden McCann would get the call to net for the second game of the day.  And he was also dialed in as he would lead the Meteors to a second win in the tournament.  At 3:00pm the Meteors would go on to face the South Grey Spartans to close the tournament out.  At 6:56 of the first period Lucas Bree decided to go for a skate and he took the puck end to end for a fantastic goal.  The Spartans would eventually tie the game up with 1:30 remaining in the second period.  With time running down, Owen Beuermann would pick up a lose puck, dangle and hit his mark with 0.1 seconds left on the clock.  The third period would wind down scoreless the the Meteors would win this one 2 to 1.

Winning two of the four games didn't get the Meteors into championship Sunday, but a great weekend was had by all.

You can catch your Meteors next Monday, January 27th in Seaforth Ontario at 8:00pm against the Mid-Huron Huskies.
