U18 LL Meteors in Hanover
Your E&F Masonry U18 LL Mitchell Meteors traveled to Hanover to face the Saugeen Maitland Steelheads (#3) at the P&H Center Sunday night. This would be the first of two cross-over games for the Meteors this season, with Saugeen from Pool B, and your Meteors from Pool C.
Porter Smith would get the call in net for this spirited match-up and he came more than ready for the challenge. Porter would make many acrobatic saves to have the fans on their feet as he stood tall killing penalties throughout the game. Mitchell's strong defensive core of Grady Smith, Lucas Bree, Seth P., Nolan Rolph and Darius Ladd would keep the penalty filled game in check.
In the first period with 40 seconds left on the clock, Dominic Ladd would unleash a nasty wrist shot (Asst., Owen B., Carson Paulen.,) putting the Meteors up 1 to 0.
In the second period, the Steelheads would strike early tying the game at 1 to 1 just 30 seconds into play. However, Grady Smith would let a cannon go (Asst., Owen B., Adam Hunt,) and regain the lead for Mitchell at 10:51. With frantic end to end action in the second Mitchell would give a goal up with 3:20 left in the period.
The third period would see the action go off the rails in the intense back and forth match leading to many penalties issued against both teams. Porter Smith held the team together stopping many shots generated from 5 on 3 power plays for Saugeen throughout the period, but the gas in the tank would just run out and late in the period Mitchell would allow 2 goals in the remaining 3 minutes of play to fall 4 to 2.
On Monday Night the Meteors traveled to Lucknow to take on the Huron-Bruce Blizzard (Grey). This team is currently in lead of Pool B with 3 wins and 2 ties with Mitchell a game behind and a close second place. With the Meteors goal scoring drying up, it was Aidan McCann's night to shine. The big goalie would stand tall as he battled in an intense close match with the Blizzard leading them to a 0 to 0 tie and another point in the standing.
Your Meteors next game will be Friday night in Ripley to take on Huron-Bruce Blizzard (White) who are undefeated with two wins. You can catch the action with game start time of 8:30pm.
