Wingham Ironmen @ Mitchell Meteors
The E&F Masonry Mitchell Meteors U18 LL welcomed the Wingham Ironmen to the Mitchell arena on Friday, October 24th, 2024 for their opening home game of the season. Mitchell entered the game fresh from a 5 to 1 road win in Kincardine earlier in the week. Wingham lost their first game 9 to 1 against the Huron-Bruce Blizzard entering this contest.
Getting the start in net for the opening home game was Aiden McCann who would play rock solid leading the Meteors to an opening home win of 6 to 1. Aiden would make many timely saves while short handed in the first period to give the team momentum.
A red hot Rogan Catalan would get the Meteors on the board with the only first period goal. Scoring at a torrent rate for the Meteors to start the season, Rogan would go on to record a hat trick in the home opener. Wingham would tie the game at 1 all to end the first period.
The second period would see the Meteors start to dominate the game from strong defense of Lucas Bree, Nolan Rolph, Darius Ladd, Grady Smith and Seth P. Carson Paulen would score to pull the boys ahead 2 to 1 followed by Tyler Scherbarth and two more goals from Rogan Catalan to end the second period 5 to 1. Darius Ladd would add the sixth from Mitchell's strong defensive core.
With two(2) dominate opening wins to start the season the Meteors hope to build on this momentum as they head to Goderich Monday, October 27th to face the Sailers who have yet to start their season. This will be a long road run with Meteor's on a stretch of 4 away games.
