It’s an exciting time for our Mitchell Legion Branch 128 U11 Local League Meteors, as they advance to Western Ontario Athletic Association Division White Finals!
This young team has grown and shown tremendous drive and determination throughout this 23/24 hockey season. Showing a bit of a slow start entering the exhibition portion, these boys have really come together to fight and improve game after game, putting on quite a show for their hometown.
On Mar 19th in game 8 the Goderich Sailors weren’t showing signs of backing down as the third period ended in a stalemate 1-1 tie, forcing an overtime. Forward Carter Poppe then netted his second goal of the game securing the series for Mitchell, sweeping their competition with an 8 game winning streak within the White Southern division. The Meteors finished round robin play at 16 points with a playoff record of 32 goals, while goalie Ben Schoonderwoerd showcased his talent allowing only 12 pucks past him.
On Sunday March 24, led by coach Derek Cochrane, Mitchell heads to Walkerton to step on the ice for their final playoff battle. They’ll face-off against the White North division champs of 15 points, the Walkerton Capitals. Puck drops at 2pm in the Walkerton Community Centre arena.
