Meteors Capture St. Mary's Rock Rep Cup
The Mitchell Meteors U13 Rep team sponsored by Hoegy's Farm Supply, went undefeated over five games to capture the Rock Cup Championship over the weekend.

Mitchell would take on the hometown St Mary's Rock in Sundays final in front of a big Stonetown crowd.  The Meteors would come out flying as only 15 seconds in Cole Templeman would lift a rebound past the Rock netminder to give an early lead.  Tyler Burtenshaw and Connor Wolfe would draw assists on the early goal.  Just 19 seconds later the Meteors would strike again with Cam Dietz scoring on a rush after picking up a loose puck from the faceoff to build a 2 to 0 lead.  A back and forth game would then take place with St Mary's looking to get back into the game, however strong team defense and goaltending would keep the hosts off the score sheet.   Early in the third, Ray Wolfe would score on the power play from Sean Gibbings to make it 3 to 0 and the Meteors would continue to shut down the Rock offense.  Carter Harris would earn his third shutout of the tournament as the Meteors celebrated the tournament win.

Earlier in the day, Mitchell would defeat Mid Huron Huskies 3 to 1 in the semi final to earn a berth in the final.  Bryson Eickmeyer would score his second of the game with just over 2 minutes left in the third to break a 1-1 tie.  Burtenshaw would seal the win with an empty netter to add to his 2 assists, with Logan Montgomery also adding a helper.

In round robin play Friday, Mitchell would open up with a 5 to 0 win over Twin Centre Stars.  Burtenshaw would lead the way offensively (1goal, 3 assists), while Eickmeyer would score a pair and defensemen Lucas DeJong and Dietz would round out the goal scoring.  Blake Otten, Dietz, Montgomery and C. Wolfe would all add single assists.  Wingers Max Brodhagen and Lincoln Laverty along with center Wes Berendsen would provide a solid two way effort throughout the game.

Game 2 saw a matchup with Wallaceburg Lakers.  After a back and forth first period, Montgomery would score with 9 seconds left in the first frame and Mitchell would not look back in an 8 to 3 win.  Offensively Ray Wolfe (2 goals, 2 assists) and Burtenshaw (3g, 1a) would each record 4 points.  Tyler Verberne would contribute (1g, 2a), with Eickmeyer also adding a goal.  Otten and Templeman would both have 2 assists each in the game with Montgomery, Dietz and Gibbings adding single helpers.

In Saturdays final game of pool play, Mitchell would see eventual finalists St Mary's Rock in an exciting game of undefeated teams.  After 2 and a half scoreless periods, Ray Wolfe (assisted by DeJong and Montgomery) would break the scoreless battle mid way through the third period.  Tight defence and another Harris shutout would secure the 1 to 0 victory.

The Meteors look to continue their strong play as they enter the playoff season.
