Great game for U13LL Meteors
The first period goes scoreless for Legion Branch 128 U13 LL Meteors (record 7-2) playing against a strong Blyth-Brussels Crusaders (record 6-2). Both teams test each other early with shots peppering the goalies and Sebastian Voros denying the Crusaders and no one finding the back of the net. Finally at 4:26 in the 2nd period Nolan Rolph sends a shot from the blue line to the back of the net after some beauty passes from Brayden Baxter and Carter Mcash.
The rest of the 2nd period is dominated by Mitchell as Mcash sends a ringer off the post and the Crusaders goalie doing his best to keep Mitchell off the scoreboard. Period ends with Mitchell up 1-0.
The 3rd period kept us all on the edge our seats. At 14:08 the Crusaders take a silly interference penalty and it costs them dearly as Luke Krempien puts a nice one just past the goalie line at 13:27, Mitchell up 2-0. Crusaders are none too happy about it and show a bit of frustration in front of the net, play gets kind of rough. The Crusaders then are back in front of the Meteors net and Voros keeps Mitchell comfortably in the lead with some beauty saves and his pads taking a beating. The Crusaders finally sneak one in at 11:14 off the faceoff, 2-1. Things got a little heated in front of the Meteors net again and each team is feeling the pressure. Nice to see the kids protecting the goalie, lets keep our noses clean. At 3:02 the Crusaders again find the back of the net after a scramble and tie it up 2-2. The Meteors are now on the hunt for their 3rd goal but the Crusaders goalie is clearly on his game tonight. Then Brayden Baxter keeps the Meteors in the game by intercepting a bouncing puck on the backcheck, preventing a streaking Crusader player from getting a clear breakaway. The fired up Meteor team then apply at bit of pressure on the Crusaders who take another roughing penalty. Mitchell squeezes the Crusaders team deep in the offensive zone, it's not looking good for Blyth-Brussels. A nice surprise pass by Mcash from behind the net gets to Max Brodhagen who puts it in, taking Mitchell up 3-2. For the final two minutes the Mitchell Meteors defense dominates the blue line and the Crusaders can't clear the puck. Crusaders finally pull their goalie but time runs out and Mitchell gets the big W!
