Bantam C girls take silver at Lower Lakes championship
The Bantam C girls traveled to Mississauga this past weekend to compete in the Lower Lakes Female Hockey League finals. The tournament was round robin format which saw the Meteors face 3 other teams.
In game #1 the girls faced the Bancroft Jets and came away with a 1-0 win. Game #2 saw a match up against the Ayr Rockets who had been a tough team to face in regular season play. Mitchell came out on the losing end of the game 4-1. In the final game of round robin the Otanabee Wolverines failed to score against Mitchell who scored 1 goal which was enough to send the Meteors to the gold medal game.
The gold medal game saw the 2 western teams face one another- Mitchell vs Ayr. The girls played strong hockey only allowing the Rockets to score 1 goal against them. However the strong play of Ayr's defence and goaltending shut the Meteors out.
This was a great end to the season which saw the team grow stronger with each game played.
Special thanks goes out to the Mt. Forest Rams who so graciously lent Mitchell a wonderful goalie after an off-ice injury sidelined Mitchell's own net minder.
