Pee Wees grab series lead
A seven-goal third period was more than enough for the Mitchell Pee Wees to defeat host Goderich 8-5 last Tuesday, Jan. 24 in Game 2 of their best-of-five series in the OMHA/WOAA 'B' playoffs.

James Cooper's power play goal on a beautiful breakaway pass from Connor Gettler 1:25 into the period tied the game 2-2, and Kevin Rops' goal just over two minutes later chased Goderich's starting netminder. Gettler's long range shot from center ice, also with the man advantage, deflected off a Goderich defender's stick and gave Mitchell the lead. But the goal-flurry was just beginning.
Cooper Preszcator scored his first of two goals in the period 1:21 later, and suddenly Mitchell had a 5-3 lead. But it didn't last long as Goderich scored two goals of their own 43-seconds apart to forge a 5-5 tie.
With six minutes still to play, Mitchell kept coming and Jacob McPhee's power play goal gave Mitchell the lead for good. Preszcator added another, then McPhee completed his hat trick thanks to an unselfish pass from Rops 23-seconds later, capping the scoring and giving Mitchell their highest scoring output of the season.
Mitchell won the opening game of the series on home ice, 3-2, Jan. 18.
Game 3 is set for this Friday, Jan. 27 at 8 p.m. in Mitchell, with Game 4, if necessary, in Goderich at 4:10 p.m. this Saturday, Jan. 28.
