Mitchell Minor Hockey members,
On behalf of the Executive, we wanted to provide an update.
We have been actively pursuing return to play for our players. We have all approvals in place (OMHA and OWHA) except for cooperation with West Perth. As many of you know the ice was removed from the Mitchell Arena, a decision made without consultation with Mitchell Minor Hockey.
Last week Mitchell Minor Hockey Executive communicated to West Perth Mayor Walter McKenzie asking that council discuss reinstallation of ice. It was requested we wait to see what colour the health unit would be placed in after lockdown. Friday it was announced Huron Perth would return to "Orange" which permits up to 30 skaters on ice. In the conversations it was explained to us that the only road to reinstalling the ice was through the monthly town council meeting. That council meeting was scheduled for Feb 16, 2021. Unfortunately, late Friday that council meeting was postponed to Feb 22, 2021.
MMH executive have requested discussion with council sooner stressing the importance of getting the process of reinstalling ice started as soon as possible. That request was denied with the earliest time given to speak to council is Feb 22, 2021.
Mitchell Minor Hockey stays committed to our youth playing hockey and look forward to getting back on the ice in the near future.
