Central South WOAA Champions
The MCR Advanced Collision Centre Atom LL team ended their season as the Central South WOAA champions.  In the first game of the finals against the Hanover Falcons, the boys took the lead with a 2-1 victory in overtime.  The second game was played in the Mitchell arena so the Meteors were hoping to take the championship on home ice.  However, once the game started, it became clear that the Hanover Falcons were determined to force a game three as they took a 2-0 lead halfway into the game.

Facing a two-goal deficit was challenging for the Meteors but close the end of the second period, Colby F.  brought them new hope as he fired a bullet from outside the blue line and past the Falcon goalie.  Shortly after, with only 38 seconds left in the period, Lucas B. fired a shot which deflected into the path of Nolan R. who took the goalie by surprise with a one-timer straight into the net.  The scored remained 2-2 throughout the entire 15-minute third period forcing the overtime.  Finally, after 8.5 minutes into the overtime, Matthew M. took the faceoff from the left of the Falcon net and passed the puck back to Colby F. who wasted no time with a final shot that solidified their championship win at a score of 3-2.  Colby couldn't escape the inevitable pile-up of teammates as the boys skated out to celebrate and cheer each other on.  Way to go Meteors!

It has been an excellent season and many thanks go to everyone who helped with the team.  First of all, we are very thankful to Beau Bree as parent rep who had many behind-the-scene managing tasks to organize games, and communicate upcoming events with parents.  Rhonda Kaufman should also be thanked for her behind the scenes work as well.  Their time and hardwork do not go unnoticed and are important for a smooth-running hockey season.

Much appreciation goes to the coaching staff who are second to none.  First of all, Anthony Beuerman has been a great help as Assistant Trainer and as an excellent role model for the young boys.  Trainer, Pete Menheere has been an integral part of the staff as a very patient, calm and caring trainer.  Coach, Jody Catalan is much appreciated as he was often seen taking skaters aside to help them work on key individual skills such as passing and shooting.  Elliott Faust brought his extensive experience and expertise to the team with creative drills and team-building advice.  As the Head Coach, Pete Kaufman steered the direction of this team throughout the entire season.  His calm, dedicated, hardworking and very fair approach to playing hockey paid off as the boys took home the championship.  But more importantly, more important than the championship, the boys are taking home a better sense of character.  They will be calmer under pressure, they will be dedicated to achieving their goals, they will see that hard work pays off, and they will be fair to themselves and to those around them. The impacts that coaches have on young people goes far beyond the sport so we can’t stress enough how grateful we are to these dedicated and caring coaches.

One more thank-you goes to this year's Affiliated Players, Michael Coyne, Rylee Kipfer, Camryn Medhurst, Zoey Michel and Macie Russwurm.  It was great having you contribute to our team this season.

Just when you thought the season was all over there is one more event on the schedule.  That’s right!  The much anticipated parents vs kids hockey game this Saturday, March 30th at 8:30 in the Mitchell arena.  Time to sharpen those old skates and tape up those old sticks because the boys won’t hold anything back.  See you all then.
