17-18 Atom Girls B - Belmont/Aylmer/Dorchester Tournament
Submitted By Jeremy Huygen on Sunday, January 21, 2018
The Mitchell Atom B girls were all good in the B.A.D. tournament this weekend.

The girls took the championship home from Aylmer on January 21st, defeating league archrival BlueWater Hawks in a tight 1-0 battle in the finals.

The girls opened the round robin on Friday with their first victory of the season over the Hawks, who have had the Meteors over a barrel in several meetings this season, until this weekend.   The 3-2 win was propelled by fantastic defensive play by Alexis Gettler, Jessie Horan,  Heather Ogilvie, and Aubrey Vosper.

Josie Walker opened the scoring, with Jade Huygen depositing the second goal and Ashley Macleod the third.  Alexis Gettler with two, Josephine Jarmuth, Walker and Danielle Harmer contributed assists.

Next the Meteors dominated the Waterloo Ravens 6-0, to put themselves in the early playoff conversation.  Huygen scored a pair of goals and added an assist, Jarmuth potted a pair of goals, and Kara Rolph had a goal and an assist.  Macleod added a single to round out the scoring.  Walker, Brooklyn Boville, Jessie Horan and Harmer all delivered additional assists.

Early Saturday morning the girls faced the Walkerton Capitals, and a 3-1 victory ensued.  Gettler opened the scoring, with Jarmuth once again dropping in a pair, with Rolph and Walker assisting.

In the fourth game of the round robin, the girls sent the South Central Division leading Haldimand Rivercats home early with another 3-1 victory.  Jarmuth yet again slotted a deuce, with Rolph adding the solo.  Boville dispatched a pair of assists, with Gettler and Huygen adding singles.

A fantastic shutout performance by netminder Kora Smith in the finals,  and a relentless effort by scorer Brooklyn Boville on the lone and deciding goal of the game resulted in the lady Meteors second tournament victory of the season.  The girls sent the Hawks home with the dismal realization that the Meteors may be a force to be reckoned with come playoff time, and that silver tastes even more bitter at 8:00 in the morning.
